For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. Luk 6:43-45Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Mat 7:15-20Have heard a great deal of what seems to be mixing up of intent and motivations in this manner in times past. Whole sermons (not here) on being 'fruit inspectors' and that being applied quite liberally. Rather than starting off with too much opinion on the matter, a question or two.Should we be of a particular motivation to be applying this beyond the intents in Matthew?Secondly, am also reminded that just prior to Luk 6:43 is verse 41 and 42;And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye. Luk 6:41,42Verse 43 starts off with the all important word; For ...Would expect this to lead directly into the whole area of judgment and right judgment as it is such. Maybe it's the 'inspector' part that is causing another reflection.
