William McGavin, The Protestant

I just bought a copy of this book, 1st edition, published in 1833. Is anyone familiar with the author or book?

I have already found that he has a statue in Glasgow, and was a controversial figure who was sued by the Roman church.

Any details would be appreciated.

To answer my own question, I have found McGavin mentioned in Spurgeon's 'The Sword and the Trowel,' from Spurgeon's sermon notes number 165:

I have a hardcover book about 275 years old that is called Scots Worthie. Could this book be the original to which you refer? I'd love to know the author of this book, but the first few pages are missing. The rest of the book is quite intact.
