Da Vinci Code - the truth behind it.

S

Hi All - I'm not sure how many comments have been on the Da Vinci Code. I wanted to let you folks into a website listed at www.bethinking.org

This is a Christian appologetic site and has a very good talk (audio) presentation from Dr Darrell Bock on his book 'Breaking the Da Vinci Code' 2005. He talks of his views of Browns book and highlights the falsehood within it and some of the truths. I found it very good for those who have read the book and seen the film.It seems to be from a lecture he gave along with questions posed by his listeners - a good place to start to get at what was going on in the early Christianity in relation to Browns book.

Wider than this the website is very good too and gives Christian apologetics from the UCCF Christian Unions.

Bless you in your hearing that the truth might come out.

Stuart.

Hi Stuart, I've not read the book nor seen the film. But, I know enough of the hype and read enough of the analysis to know that this book would be laughable if it wasn't that so many took it seriously. The BBC recently had a web discussion on the book and even hardened atheists were embarrassed by how bad the book was. A friend of mine in Germany read the book and I was asked what answers I had to the books questions; I found it very difficult to articulate any answers in my opinion we might as well ask what is the relevance of Peter Pan's theology! I still have difficulty taking this book seriously, sadly however, I'm in the minority in this world. :-(

Hi thanks for responding - yes I've not read the book or seen the film - like you have enough of the hype to get the gist though. This lecture cited although one and a half hours worth I think is well worth listening to and gives some good background to book and the other 'Jesus' texts that existed around early centuries. One of his main points is that Paul's letters are among the earliest in the NTestament around 50- 60AD and so they are agreed by most scholars to be true accounts of what Paul wrote therefore what the early church believed. In other words Jesus was human and divine the Son of God, etc this was how the early Christianity worshipped Jesus. As he says the film is out in the USA and in Europe during May and so the topic will come up again. Many of my Christian friends see it as opportunity to witness to those who see the film and are wondering. I agree - if gives a good starting place to talk.

Bless you....(like a true Scot - or so they say I'll get the book from the library - why should I add to Brown's bank!) :-D

Stuart,
I received this email the other day. Here it is for your perusal:

The Da Vinci Code Cites Sources That Degrade Women
WAKE FOREST, North Carolina, June 1 /Christian Newswire/ -- Oxford Scholar, Dr. Michael Green states in a free TrueLife.org video that the Gnostic gospels, a source the Da Vinci Code consistently sites, are crazy. “In one place they claim children are conceived by kissing, and women cannot be saved unless they become men. It’s fascinating to me, the few scholars that give much credit to Gnostic gospels, most of them are women; but of course Gnosticism has no place for women whatsoever.”

In addition, the video responds to the claim that Mary Magdalene was married to Jesus Christ. Dr. Kostenberger, Founder of BiblicalFoundations.org states, "There is not a single shred of evidence in any ancient document that says Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene or to anyone else." And Jesse Connors, the founder of TrueLife.org warns, “Don’t be taken by a lie, be taken by the truth; check out one of the real Gospels.”

This captivating biblical and historical response, entitled The Da Vinci Response, is currently showing on TrueLife.org with other videos.

"The recent release of the "Da Vinci Code" presents a unique dilemma for Christians, as it directly challenges the basic truths of Christianity. Fortunately, TrueLife.org has put together "The Da Vinci Response," a short, yet informative video, which is easily accessed online, and well produced. Especially for busy people who have little time to read through extensive arguments, "The Da Vinci Response" will be a great asset in combating the lies inherent in the "Da Vinci Code." -- Aimee Herd, Editor, Breaking Christian News.

Hi Bless you for your reponse - I think by now there are indeed many such web sites and replies unfortunately the media does not pick them up. Anyhow at least we can give a response to those who ask us to do so in regard to our beliefs.

Bless you and yours in Christ Stuart.
