Why I Won't Preach

Why I Won’t Preach
By Jesse Morrell

“And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.” Ac 5:42

The surest way to receive the criticism of the public is to put yourself in the eye of the public. No matter whom you are, what you do, how you do it, or why you do it, there will always be someone, somewhere, who doesn’t like it, for some reason.

These criticisms can catch you off guard, come from all sides, and can cut sharper then a razor. But the preacher of God must be one who does not need the encouragements of men, but only encouragements from his Master. The man, who finds his strength in the Lord, and not in the church or the world, will be a man that hell itself cannot shake or silence.

With much criticism coming from every side, fighting without and fighting within, I have firmly made up my mind that I will not preach…..

I will not preach:

- Another Jesus

- Another Gospel

- A Message Void of Hell

- A Message Void of Repentance

- A Message Full of False Peace

- Anything except the Word of God

Why I will not preach another Jesus, the popular Jesus, the soft and sentimental Jesus:

Today there is another Jesus being preached which is different then the Jesus the bible speaks of. There is a Jesus who is merely waiting to comfort and hug sinners in their sin. This Jesus does not require repentance, does not threaten with hell, is never angry with sinners, and does nothing but accept them as they are. And this Jesus is not the Jesus of the bible.

T-Shirts sold in Christian stores today read: “Jesus Is My Homeboy” but the Jesus of the bible is Lord, Savior, and Judge. It is not this new, smiling Jesus which needs to be preached. The Jesus that needs to be preached is the Jesus who commands men to repent (Matt 4:17), does not accept sinners as they are but requires they be born again (John 3:3), taught the fear of God and warns about hell (Matt 10:28), will judge the secrets of men’s hearts (Rom 2:16), will slay his enemies (Luke 19:27), and saves men from their sins (Rom 6:18), transforming them into new creatures. (2 Cor 5:17) And it is this Jesus that I’m going to preach!

Why I will not preach another Gospel, the modern gospel, the “easy-believism” gospel:

Today there is another gospel being preached. This modern gospel saves men in their sin but not from their sin. This modern gospel, this new gospel, requires only that sinners believe but not that sinners repent. This modern gospel, this new gospel, has been fitted for sinners and forged in the pits of hell. This modern gospel has no cross but only comfort, no repentance but only remission, no persecution but only prosperity, no threats of hell but only hopes of heaven.

The gospel that must be preached today is the biblical gospel, the powerful gospel, not a neutered gospel. We need the sin trampling, death destroying, hell conquering gospel! We need the gospel which plucks men out of the fires of hell, out of the clutches of death, and out of the reign of sin. It is this gospel of light which is needed for this dark hour, this gospel of victory for this day of defeat, this gospel of deliverance for this day of bondage. And it is this gospel that I’m going to preach!

Why I will not preach a message void of hell:

Today there are many pep-you-up, happy hour, preachers. They have taken the messages of motivational speakers, edited them to add the words “God” and “Jesus”, and deliver them as sermons to congregations of thousands. They have graduated from the seminary of smooth talking, intentionally removing any “rough corners” and “bumps” found in the scriptures. With these preachers, it is not always what they say which is the problem, but what they fail to say.

The messages of Jesus often warned the wicked about their eternal consequences; hell-fire. The first preacher in the bible to coin the phrase “hell-fire” was Jesus Christ (Matt 5:22). Jesus often publicly warned that God will cast sinners into “a furnace of fire” and “outer darkness” where there will be “weeping and gnashing of teeth”. (Matt 8:12, 13:42, 13:50, 22:13, 24:51, 25:30, Luke 13:28). Jesus warned about the “eternal d**nation” (Matt 3:29), the “d**nation of hell” (Matt 23:33), and “the resurrection of d**nation” (John 5:29). Jesus warned about “condemnation” (John 3:19, 5:24), warned about “the wrath of God” (John 3:36), and we must do the same if we are to dare say we love the lost. And it is this hell, God’s hell, Jesus’ hell, that I’m going to preach!

Why I will not preach a message void of repentance:

Today, the most uncommon sort of preacher in the American Church is a repentance preacher. Yet the most common type of preacher found in the bible are those who firmly and boldly preached repentance. This high cost message can result in low income and so seems to be tossed out the window of the Church more concerned with it’s own kingdom then the Kingdom of God. For fear of repentance becoming a stumbling block many have removed this corner stone to make the gospel a little bit more easy to accept, with less requirements and more blessings.

Repentance is foundational and fundamental to preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom of God, that to remove this foundation, and yet continue to build, is inevitably building the kingdom of this world but can never be the Kingdom of God. To remove repentance from the gospel is to so disfigure and manipulate the gospel so that it is no longer the biblical gospel at all!

The bible records that “Jesus began to preach, and to say, repent…”(Matt 2:17) which ought to be sufficient enough for us to go and do likewise. And the bible also records of His disciples that “they went out, and preached that men should repent.” (Mark 6:12). Christ himself, lovingly yet boldly, twice declared, “unless you repent, you will all likewise perish”. (Luke 13:3, 13:5) It is this biblical ingredient that must not be left out of our public proclamations of the gospel. And it’s a message of “turn and live” that I’m going to preach!

Why I will not preach a message of false peace:

Today there are thousands upon thousands who sit in Church congregations week after week, month after month, year after year, with smiles on the outside and sin on the inside. “Peace, peace” comes wonderfully flowing from the pulpit to the pews, smothering consciences with false comfort and strengthening sinners in their sins.

The false prophets in the Old Testament preached “peace, peace; when there is no peace” (Jeremiah 6:14). God has uncompromisingly declared, “there is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked” (Isaiah 57:21). They must be washed, cleansed, renewed in the blood of Jesus Christ, transformed into Saints of God, if they are ever to have God’s peace and take hold of eternal life with Him.

The gospel of God is one that is sharper then any two edges sword (Heb 14:12). It is never dull but deeply penetrates the hearts and consciences of men. It awakens, startles, and transformed the lives of men. It does not rock to sleep, it does not gently pat on the back, and it does not cover without also cleansing. And it is this Word, sharper then a two edged sword, that I am going to preach!

Why I will not preach anything but the Word of God

Today preachers preach many things, but not the Word of God. They get on TV, the radio, behind the pulpit, and perform with their polished personalities, speak with their refined eloquence, and declare things that the Lord has not declared. There is no famine of food or of water in America today. But there is a famine of “hearing the word of the Lord” (Amos 8:11)

It is neither personality, eloquence, brilliance, nor the abilities of men that the lost and dying world needs. But the world needs Jesus. The world needs to hear the word of the Lord. When a preacher needs to rely or depend on anything except God and His Word there is something terribly wrong with Him. God’s Word is not only sufficient, but God’s Word is all we need in the convicting of sinners and in the comforting of the Saints. Preach the book! That’s all you need. And it’s that book, God’s book, that this preacher is going to preach!

I will tell you this Jesse, that what I just read from your pen is so loaded down with religious self-pride that I beg you to seek a time of fasting from writing anything on a computer, or shouting anything from a megaphone. I beg to seek 40 days alone with God.

hear these Words, "God so loved the world...."

Our God is not harsh, as your words are, He is slow to anger, abounding in love grace and mercy, yet you heap abuse on countless men of God who don't measure up to your fierce immature fiery fleshly zeal.

Do you think that your fiery condemnation resonates with the unrepentant?

No...they see some religious freek full of religious pride ranting on religion, they do not see Jesus Lamb of God, Saviour of the World, who humbled Himself to the point of nails driven thru Him.

Hear me, don't ever insult our Lord by calling yourself a preacher, humble yourself and repent. Take that van and drive to the Mojave Desert, take 2 five gallon jugs of water, a tent, a sleeping pad, and a Bible, stay alone out there and read the Bible until your water runs out, and pray till you sweat. Beg God to kill the embryonic pharisee that is rearing its ugly head in your heart.

When you have been so humbled, finally take a shower to clean the dirt from your body. Buy a large wash basin, some liquid soap, some wash rags. Go to one of the places that you street preach and offer to wash the feet of sinners. When they ask you why?....say to them, that you want to show them the Love of Christ, and why He has given us this amazing Grace that is to be ignored only at their peril.

I say all this to you in love, and in respect. If you want to be another Jed Smock, continue as you are. If you want to be an Elijah, go to where the crows are.

in Jesus love, bartle

oh with all due respect as well i can tell u that if i preach the Loveing Jesus (alone) and the sinner is goin to die in his sin but simply knowing that Jesus is his "hommie" that siner will still end up in hell, ......the Gospel needs to be balanced when preached, preachers can not give a sermon out of one verse alone, without showing the audience the verse that completes the message, I can not preach about the Love of Jesus without tellin the siners that even if Jesus loves them their still gona go to hell, therefore in that same mesage i need to preach about the wrath of God ....

well i want to say one should never say anything to someone else that you havent done or lived yourself...in telling people what or how they shold do something... When lazarus is out preaching the way he is... if his wrong anywhere then the holy spirit will tell him i belive... now what you said about going out in the wilderness...thats good for ALL OF US... that would be good for you for me and for any other man or woman of god... and about preaching...i belive god will raise up one preacher who is specially good at preaching the love of god..another about repentence..another of heven and hell... but i dont belive one should preach only about one thing... if you only preach about gods love.... then you havent shown them "all" of god.... its true he is love..but he is so much more.

and why would anyone? accepts gods love in their lives exept they relise they despratly need it? i dident need a savior until i was so lost that ehtier god saved me or i was left to die. We should al remember if you preach about jesus to anyone... then preach the cross... the cross is death!!! not an improved "lifestyle".. ohh you will feel better...you will have a better life... you wont have to go to hell and so on... YOU HAVE TO DIE!!! and that we must preach... preach sin hell repentence heaven.... but most of all jesus christ and his cross....

but then again... when peter asks jesus after the resurection... what about him? refering to john... ehat does jesus awnser him? thats a verse we need to meditate... joh 21:23 what others is called to maybe not be your call.. someones elses suffering maybe not be your suffering...someone elses burden may not be yours... and what others do...what does that have to do whit you??? we all awnser to our lord ..no one else...what they do in jesus name...what they preach in his name... the truth is unless god says you should say anything you shouldent.... god will judge them, that im sure of ... if it is good or evil... i pray we will al focus on the thing thats is the most important... to bring souls to christ... to be christ like.... and what to preach on...that should be quite easy...what did our lord preach? what did the apostle preach? if i will be a preacher thats what i will preach...

gods peace to you

Once again the admonishen is neglected;

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. Jam 3:13

Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. 1Pe 3:16

It might behoove some here to study out this word, conversation ... Taking special note of the Lords own words in conjunction with it;

But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. Mat 15:18

Brethren,

May we walk in the Spirit so we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh! May we lean upon the Lord and not our own understanding! May we not put a stumbling block before our brothers and sisters in Christ, no matter how misguided they might be at times: "Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted" (Gal.6:1)--for indeed, how many a time we have blown it, hurriedly seeking our own!

I am still in the beginning of my walk with Christ, and the Spirit is convicting me of sins all the time--of things that I have done and things I have left undone--and the flesh does not like being chastened. Indeed, I have never been open-air preaching, and I have been seeking the Lord's guidance about that matter. Thus, I will not pronounce a judgment until the Lord has convinced me--although the flesh yearns to make its will known and rant all its "wisdom" at the moment.

I pray, brethren, that we may seek the Lord's instruction about all things, praying without ceasing. He will not leave us in the dark--as He has not left us until this point of our walk. But let us first humble ourselves and be still before Christ.

I just listened to a message called "Walking in the Spirit" by David Wilkerson, which I recommend. You can hear it here.

May the grace of Christ be with you all,
Slavyan

But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. (1 Corinthians 15:10)

Preach on, Brother Jesse.
It is not the sinner that doesn't want to hear your message.
It is the luke warm in the Church.
They want to believe the prosperity, feel good Gospel.
May God have us at the ditch, His bride, when they fall in, so we can show them Jesus Christ.
The Bible says if the blind lead the blind, they both fall into the ditch.
I would encourage you people on SI to listen to Jesses's Sermons here.
Would to God our young people at Church could hear him.
God Bless you, Jesse, and continue to fill you with Himself.

It seems that Laz is telling us to preach what Jesus preached.

Jesus did not preach a message of salvation from some other, but rather said that He, the Son of Man, must be lifted up. He humbly preached His own name.

Jesus preached a narrow way. Black or white. Saved or lost. Wise virgins or foolish virgins. Built on rock or built on sand. Fruit-bearing or condemned to wither. Abraham's bosom or torments in flame. His message was straight, so our's ought to be.

Jesus spoke more of hell than any figure in the Scriptures. I don't think anything else needs to be added here.

Jesus' message included repentance, and in fact, started with it, continued with it, and ended with it. His first word of public ministry was 'Repent' in Matthew. His last word of instuction to the New Testament church was 'repent' in Revelation. And the words of Matthew clearly state that He only had 'began' to command men to repent.

Of false peace, I think of this Scripture:

Matt 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

I put this on myself and no one else, but let it convict or encourage where ever it might. While I have been careful to include all of the above, I have been reading from J I Packers 'Keeping In Step with the Spirit,' and have recognized the lack of the other things Jesus and the disciples preached outside of sin, law, righteousness, judgment, and hell (the big five).

Now let me state that preaching must include these, but I am recognizing that that there were many other subjects in their messages that I disclude from mine that I am seeking to add. The majority of preaching, as far as I can tell, does not include the big five, though it should start with the big five and continue in them. I am just realizing in my realm of living and preaching that there is more than the escape of the penalty of the law of sin. But I also recognize that the Christian walk BEGINS with this.

So I think it might bring some thoughts to agreement to consider that Laz is preaching to the lost, not the church crowd. So while there is the love of Christ to consider in ministry, these under Laz's voice need a Saviour from their sin. He is not preaching to the converted. He is attempting to bring the dead to life. We will give that saved sinner the loving arms of Christ when he steps foot into our fold, but as for now, that individual needs to flee from the wrath to come.

May the Lord sustain you and keep you from falling, Jesse.

Jesse wrote:

The gospel that must be preached today is the biblical gospel, the powerful gospel, not a neutered gospel. We need the sin trampling, death destroying, hell conquering gospel! We need the gospel which plucks men out of the fires of hell, out of the clutches of death, and out of the reign of sin. It is this gospel of light which is needed for this dark hour, this gospel of victory for this day of defeat, this gospel of deliverance for this day of bondage. And it is this gospel that I’m going to preach!

This is true and in the light of this truth one needs to ask himself if the gospel one preaches is in line with this truth. So how do we do this? We look at the fruit. So ask yourself, over the past year how many people have been plucked out of the fires of hell, out of the clutches of death, and out of the reign of sin as result of the gospel you preached? How many people have received victory over sin and had the bondages of sin broken in there life as result of the gospel you preached? How many people have been baptized as result of the gospel you preached? How many people have been filled with the Holy Spirit as result of the gospel you preached? How many people have been crushed with the realization of their sinful condition openly weeping or falling to their knees under the burden of conviction as result of the gospel you preached? How many people have come to complete repentance as result of the gospel you preached? How many people are currently being discipled by you yourself or someone directly related with your ministry as result of the gospel you preached?

If you are preaching the gospel these fruits will be added to you. But are you are preaching a weak and powerless gospel void of fruit?

Matthew 7:15-17
15Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

The Scripture says "by their fruits ye shall know them". Yet some people claim that they don't know their fruit because they are just sowing seeds and that those seeds may well produce fruit down the road that they don't know about. Well, this is true to a sense, some twist this truth to attempt to explain their lack of fruit. Although we do sow seeds that are harvested later down the road it can never be an excuse for lack of visible tangible fruit, for the Scripture says "by their fruits ye shall know them" If you don't know your own fruit, how can I know you by your fruit? Dose the Gospel you preach produce visible tangible fruit?

John 15:4-6
4Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

Notice how the Scripture says "much fruit" not "some fruit" or "a little fruit" but "much fruit" Does the gospel you preach bring forth "much fruit"? Don't fool yourself by saying "I'm just sowing seeds" if you abide in Christ and preach the true Gospel it WILL bring forth much fruit that is both visible and tangible.

John 15:7-9
7If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. 9As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

Again the Scripture says "much fruit". Over the past year has the gospel you preached brought forth "much fruit" that is both visible and tangible?

John 15:16
16Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

So ask yourself when answering the questions in the first paragraph - Do your answers show evidence of as the Scriptures says "much fruit" or does your answers show evidence of as the Scripture says "a tree that bringeth not forth good fruit" that is hewn down, and cast into the fire. If you do not have visible and tangible evidence of much fruit, I warn you be aware that you are NOT abiding in Christ and preaching a weak and powerless gospel and a gospel entirely other then the Gospel of Christ which plucks men out of the fires of hell, out of the clutches of death, and out of the reign of sin and is a gospel of victory for this day of defeat, this gospel of deliverance for this day of bondage no only in theory and word but in demonstration of power by action.

"He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit"

T-Shirts sold in Christian stores today read: “Jesus Is My Homeboy” but the Jesus of the bible is Lord, Savior, and Judge.

Amen. I think too often today we have put too much emphasis on the "relational" aspect of the gospel. As much as the relational aspect of the gospel is needed in our preaching, as Jesus often emphasized it when He spoke of "the Father", I think much preaching and many Christians have neglected the chief way Christ is understood in the NT: as Lord.

When we preach Christ as Lord, we convey that Christ is not just merely another person who is giving friendly advice, but rather, is One who gives commands that are to be obeyed. The relational aspect of the gospel, of Jesus being "my homeboy" keeps us from carrying out the commandments of Christ in a cold manner, but instead as one whose heart has been warmed by God. But the emphasis in the NT is on the Lordship of Christ.

Patrick, thank you for your 'fruitful' contribution. I do wish to bring a bit of balance here though.

I have recently been reading a biography of Adoniram Judson to my children. In case you don't know about him, he was America's first foreign missionary. He was called by God to go to Burma in the early 1800's. He and his wife Ann labored faithfully in Rangoon for many years without a single convert. Despite many hardships he managed to complete the only existing Burmese translation of the Bible available even to this day. Eventually, after years of labor, there were converts and a church established and one can look back and indeed say the was "much fruit".

On the other hand, there are certainly others who see 'fruit' almost immediately. Either way it is God who gives the increase in His timing. We are simply called to unswerving dedication wherever He may lead us.

In Christ,

Ron

I don't have 40 days to spend in the Sinai as I have to work a secular job, but I do have 5 days off next week which I will devote to the Lord in prayer fasting and seeking His counsel.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) my land is a fertile land, so there is no desert nearby. Most of the time, in Scriptures when. men went to be alone and to seek God it was in the desert, but I will seek a desolate place, alone with a jug of water and a Bible.

I will seek to read thru the Bible twice in these 5 days, the first with the theme of God's love in my heart and mind, the second time with God's judgement.

you shouldn't use terms like "left wing hippies", such words expose the misdeeds of your heart. I say that gently.

When I come back next week from my five days, don't expect a report on this forum. It's between me and our Father.

My rebuke of Jesse stands, it stands on the Rock of Christ which is that "God so loved the world..."

Thank God a man can preach what he wants in America, he might get some police harrassment, or a drunken sinner might give him some grief, but all that is just words, human words told on human terms, It's the Holy Spirit speaking in spiritual words to a lost sinner that turns a person and reconciles him or her back to a loving and forgiving Father.

If a fellow wants to be the Jed Smock of the 21st century, fine......but there's a harshness there and hardness of heart that doesn't carry the message of truth which is that God is love.

You can call that a "touchy feely" Gospel, but I do recall a portion of the Gospel when the disciples were rebuking people for bringing their kids to Jesus so the Lord can lay hands on them.....hence, if the shoe fits.......

Brethren,

Who have contributed to this forum thread so far and also those that are reading this for the first time. The seemingly controversy in people's responses is not due to the article itself but a longer discussion and ongoing talk with Jesse Morrell and about his ministry. The pre-ample I have quoted at the top of this post from his article ties in his personal experiences and ministry in the last while with this article. Therefore some people are reacting to that, personally I totally agree with the rest of the article and think it is written well, Jesse surely has a great skill in writing as the Lord has blessed him.

The controversy is that in his preaching is there being fruit borne? is the word of God being preached yes but is it being done in a way that is apostolic? I don't disagree with Jesse's ministry but I do have some prayerful concerns about parts of the presentation of the gospel at times.

I have already spoken to Jesse personally about this. I would encourage you brethren to pray for him, and encourage him. To speak harshly against him without even knowing him that well is quite unfruitful. But in love to give some scriptures and opionions would be encouraged.

Surely God can and does speak to us through other members of the body of Christ. And if a person thinks that he is above anyone's reproof, rebuke, exhoration, etc is decieved.

As John Wesley said: "I am going to bring them Christ." And I just read a book called "The Person of Christ" by Andrew Bonar, and what the summation of that book is that the gospel is Christ, not about him, or leading to Him, it is Him. We are to present to people not just an abstract way to get to God by certain actions but rather show them the "pearl of great price". As spurgeon's motto was: We preach Christ and Him Crucified.

Here is a link to a sermon by C.H. Spurgeon that I think many of us could listen to *you also Jesse: Turn or Burn by C.H. Spurgeon

Now in closing I want to say one last thing. Even though it is a very good truth that we need to warn every man of hell of destruction, of the wrath of God, etc. Even though it is admirable in these days of feel good preaching to preach "hell-fire". As much good as it is to speak of repentance primarly and not as much on belief. The question has to be asked in the midst of all of this are we becoming unbalanced?

And I am willing to say that as much as the unbalanced gospel of just believing and going to heaven barely works! I also truly believe that a message of just hell, repentance, wrath, will IN THE END have the same effect of barely bringing change.

NOW this is not to say that we cannot preach a emphasis sometimes. I heard a quote by Ravenhill saying what this generation needs is a good amount of good old fashioned "hell-fire preaching!" and YES amen! it surely does, but it doesn't need people doing it all the time, just because it seems no one else is doing it and we have to catch up for all the rest. My word would just be to BALANCE and allow God to bring us all to a more centered position with Him and hearing from the Spirit when to emphasize a truth more to a certain crowd, or church group.

I hope these words do fall on good ground in all of our hearts and what is not of God would not remain.

Thank you Greg for your, as usual, well balanced and timely words of wisdom.

I would like to also state that my previous post was in no way directed solely at Jesse and his ministry. The post was not only for Jesse, but for all others who claim the name of Christ in ministry. This includes myself, you Greg, Jesse and everyone who ministers in the name of Jesus. I think it prudent to continually inspect our own fruit or look to see if in fact we have any at all.

brethren
like greg said there must be balance. one can't hear only of a loving Father without knowing that God is just and as such will mete out the prescribed punishment on sinners. The Love of God is something completely foreign to us because it is a thing which is not inherent to us. Therefore our peception thereof is oft very jaded and leans a lot on our pre-Chris view of what love is hence a sentiment like this :

Our God is not harsh, as your words are, He is slow to anger, abounding in love grace and mercy, yet you heap abuse on countless men of God who don't measure up to your fierce immature fiery fleshly zeal.

bro Bartle God's love encompases His Righteousness, Holiness and Justice which means sin is not acceptable before Him. He is harsh toward sin. He is slow to anger indeed but heaven forbid you or anyone else make Him angry coz if you don't have the blood of Christ on you, there is no stopping Him. God's love doesn't mean we can get away with sin, we are forgiven but not exempt from the consequences thereof and we all need to be aware that our Lord requires that we REPENT for if we don't, we will die. God our Father saw the issue of our salvation to be one of such gravity that the only way it could be bought was by the blood of His Son who Himself was and is sinless. That is a frightening thing because it says if we goof off and reject that blood or treat it with contempt or the gospel thereof, God the Father will not be happy. If we are to preach, let us be called of God and preach what He would have us preach. it will offend people because the very nature of our God and His word is an offense to men. Our early Christian brethren didn't end up martyred in all manner of ways for being nicey nicey, they preached as they were led to preach and it was offensive. i'm not saying we ought to be offensive for the sake of it, but simply we ought to be aware that God's word is offensive and if we don't see that reaction from people, perhaps we ought to stop and check ourselves...

ouf job is not to convert/convict, Holy Spirit does that, we are to do whatever our Father says.

Do you think that your fiery condemnation resonates with the unrepentant?

if our Father calls any one of us to preach with such fire at a particular time, should we not obey Him? if the unrepentant person receiving the message doesn't repent and you have done as you were asked, let God deal with it. He will harden whomever He will. Anything beyond what God says we ought to do, is none of our concern.

No...they see some religious freek full of religious pride ranting on religion, they do not see Jesus Lamb of God, Saviour of the World, who humbled Himself to the point of nails driven thru Him.

if they see some religious freak and we've done as we were asked, what is that to us? should we not rejoice for the ridicule we receive for the cause of the gospel? Christ ended up on the cross because what He said was very offensive to the powers at the time, that's why the council had Him crucified, however they didn't know that they were fulfilling what God required for the remission of sins so He was crucified coz He was offensive but for the purpose of God being glorified in our salvation.

our God is Holy and as such requires we His children to be Holy. This Holiness we are called to is an offense to man because the light of it exposes the false holiness and false rightteousness of man. The message of repentance is rarely preached and as a result those who do preach it are looked at with contempt, same goes for those who warn of the eternal nature of damnation and hell, and those who speak of the Holiness and Righteousness of God which is an aspect of Him and His love which demands we be Holy as He is.

brethren, God the Father's Son paid with His very blood for us, i think it unwise to blaspheme His name and blood by misrepresenting Him by poor preaching. If we misrepresent God and hinder anyone from coming to Him either by preaching Him to be a teddybear who'll take us as we are without repenting or one who is seeking to condemn us we shall surely have to give an account and we'll have blood on our hands. i for one would rather not stand before God in such a situation.

let us preach and represent God as HE is, a loving God who requires that as many as would should repent and those who do not will surely die. AMEN.

Well said, brother.

Again, so true and concise.

Hi everyone.

I thought this would be a good reminder for us concerning our responses to each other. If you haven't already, or even if you have, may I recommend opening this thread

https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?mode=view...

and click on the map of the "Top 500 Spots in the world that access SI!"

That should give us an idea of amount of people that can potentially view our words.

I was wondering too, if we are praying for those who we disagree with before we respond to them? I was thinking about this and decided that I had to do it myself before I said anything. When I came back to the computer I did not quite see the same things as I did before. Something else I thought of while praying is the question, why don't we do this, that is pray for those we disagree with before we post something?

Is it because of unbelief? Do we not believe that God will do something about it or perhaps that He will not do what we want Him to do? Perhaps we are not meek enough to suffer patiently long enough to see God move when we can instantly take it upon ourselves to mete out justice?

Some thoughts, for myself included.
