The Devil Is Retired!

sermonindex Jul 6, 2006

Good news! After much hard work at stealing, killing, and destroying, the devil has finally thrown in the towel. That means we no longer have to worry about the devil here in the 21 Century. Today the devil has taken up much more milder, innocent occupations.

No longer interested in brainwashing our children and society, to pollute their minds with filth and rot, the devil has changed occupations to become an innocent music producer!

No longer interested in tempted with lust and vanity, the devil changed occupations to become an innocent fashion designer!

No longer interested in cultivated an appetite for blood and violence in people, the devil has changed occupations to become an innocent movie director!

No longer interested in searing the consciences of children soon to be adults, numbing their senses and promoting beatings and shootings, the devil has changed occupations to become an innocent video game designer!

No longer interested in corrupting our government, outlawing Christianity and legalizing immorality, the devil has changed occupations to be an innocent politician!

No longer interested in molding and shaping our future world leaders, to instill in them unbelief and hostility towards the gospel, the devil has changed occupations to be an innocent college professor!

And no longer interested in perverting the gospel of Jesus Christ, giving false peace and false assurance of salvation, convincing men that God is not angry and that He accepts them as they are, the devil has changed occupations to become an innocent preacher.

Let’s just enjoy our innocent music, our innocent fashion, our innocent movies and our innocent video games. Let’s just trust our politicians, our professors, and our preachers.

Isn’t it great that we don’t have to worry about the devil in the 21 Century? Be at ease. Be at peace. Stop striving and fighting for there is no war to fight anymore. All is well with hell. Be at peace with the devil. Let’s just keep blindly believing that the devil is no longer here to “steal, kill, and destroy”. Let’s just keep living as though the devil is retired, as the world around us continues to sink deeper and deeper into hell.

Well done! I couldn't have put it better myself.
I would never have thought of that, although it is so blatanly obvious that the Church is just so apathetic toward the world going to hell. The Church is okay, they think. They have no need of nothing, Rev 3v17. God help us. We need more than just a wake up call. If 9/11 didn't move us. If the sin sick condition of this world doesn't move us, what will? As most Christians in the West are right now, the devil has no worries. Let's give him some. God bless.

This reminds of a Keith Green song entitled "No One Believes In Me Anymore."

Oh, my job keeps getting easier, as time keeps slipping away,
I can imitate your brightest light and make your night look just like day,
I put some truth in every lie, to tickle itching ears,
You know I'm drawing people just like flies, cause they like what they hear,

I'm gaining power by the hour, they're falling by the score,
You know, it's getting very simple now cause no one believe in me anymore.

Oh, heaven's just a state of mind, my books read on your shelf,
And have you heard that God is dead, I made that one up myself,
They dabble in magic spells, the get their fortunes read,
You know they heard the truth, but turned away and followed me instead,

I used to have to sneak around, but now they just open their doors,
You know, no ones watching for my tricks because no one believes in me anymore.

Everyone likes a winner, with my help, you're guaranteed to win,
And hey man, you're ain't no sinner, you've got the truth within,
And as your life slips by you believe the lie that you did it on your own,
But don't worry, I'll be there to help you share our dark eternal home.

Oh, my job keeps getting easier, as day slips into day,
The magazines, the newspapers, print every word I say,
This world is just my spinning top, it's all like childs-play,
You know, I dream that it will never stop, but I know it's not that way,

Still my work goes on and on, always stronger than before,
I'm gonna make it dark before the dawn since no one believes in me anymore,

Well now I used to have to sneak around, but now they just open their doors,
You know, no one watches for my tricks since no one believes in me anymore,

Well I'm gaining power by the hour, they're falling by the score,
You know, it's getting very easy now since no one believes in me anymore,
No one believes in me anymore, no one believe in me anymore.

Speaking of songs, Jesse's news "report" reminds me of these profound song verses by Randy Stonehill...

"I see the world as a perfect place
no tears, no fears, no dizzy fall from grace,
no hungry mouth, no one in pain, no naked orphans in the rain.

But I was only sleeping, safe and warm in bed. Safe and warm in bed...while the world was weeping, hanging by a thread. I was only sleeping.

Sometimes a voice whispers in the night about the river of souls running through my life...
lives in the balance, see them sinking down.
Will I reach out or will I watch them drown?

But I just go on sleeping, safe within my dreams, while the world is bleeding, bleeding at the seams. I just go on sleeping.

The harvest is ready and ripe but the fields are on fire. Yet the workers have all deserted to chase the mirage of desire...and I just go on sleeping....

There's a mournful dove at my window sill. If I don't wake up...who will?"

Along these sad lines I remember George Whitefield said something like this...

Many Christians ask the Lord to save them from temptation when it is they who are tempting the devil to tempt them!

The greatest need today is for holy men and women of God, to stand boldly and unashamedly in the public places, and preach what Gideon Ouseley called "the disease and the cure" which was sin and salvation! If anything will turn back the tidal waves of sin and ungodliness that is flooding our land, drowning and drenching multitudes in filth, it's preaching like that!

"If we ever needed to speak out strongly we need to do it today." Ian Paisley

"If we are to better the future we must disturb the present." Catherine Booth
