great preachers in this day that live poor in spirit?

i've heard so much of men like John Wesley who made millions like a televangelist and gave it all away to support missionaries, print bibles, build orphanages and others like Leonard Ravenhill who didn't take up an offering. I was just wondering in this day in age if there are any on fire preachers like these great men of God that still live in such a way. Some people I was really interested in learning more about was David Wilkerson, Art Katz, and Michael Brown. Does anybody know anything about these guys? Like how they live, what kind of house they live in, car, etc...

David Wilkerson is great! I actually got saved at a david wilkerson crusade a few years ago. He is truly a great preacher of the bible. You should go to WWW.timessquarechurch.com, and if you look, you can hear some great sermons and see all of his newsletters from years ago.

Art Katz, I have heard is really good from everyone on Sermon Index, but honestly, I havent heard any of his stuff, but I will soon.

Now concerning Michael Brown, if you wanna know, came out of the false pensacola outpouring and is teaching that false doctrine in the FIRE school of ministry, just do a quick seacrh on the internet, and you can find a whole bunch of false prophecies he has made etc. I once was fooled to think he was a teacher of righteousness, until I really saw what he is about. I have even seen video footage from one of the church services that look like it came right from Benny Hinn.

I have listened to many sermons by Mike Brown and he preaches holiness, living for Christ, and dying to self. I have never heard him preach anything that was heretical. If you have any of his messages where he is doing so, that you think I should listen to, please let me know.

as for Brownsville, I know people personally who had been there during the time you mentioned whose lives were affected in a positive way for Christ and who are more on fire for God than they were before they went there. There may have been a lot of things that were not right there, but God was still able to move on willing hearts.

Why did men like Wesley and Ravenhill see it wrong to take up an offering?

Doesn't it say in 1 Corinthians 9:14 "Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel."

Is it wrong for preachers to take up an offering every Sunday?

I totally agree with you. We are called to be generous. But I think tithing was part of the old covenant. Paul never uses the word tithe. Jesus mentions tithe once when he is talking to the Pharisees,(Matthew 23:23). But their righteousness came from observing the law.

In Acts, people were selling homes and fields and laying the money at the apostles feet to distribute to those who had need. Now that's an offering!

As Zac Poonen says "money is your servant, Jesus is your master." Not the other way around!

Art Katz will be speaking at the FIRE school this Thursday and this is his second engagement there to my knowledge. Unfortunately I missed Art the first time he came through but I intend to be there on Thursday. I have a great respect for both of these men of God.

I think the issue should not be so much in if a person takes an offering, but rather what happens to it in their hands afterwards.
I think of George Mueller who never made any needs known to man, but yet never had any needs go unmet by GOD. Thus he established many orphanages, and fed, clothed, and raised hundreds if not thousands of orphans. He also established a society to get Scripture into the hands of people in lands like India, and China.
May our GOD raise up more men and women who look to HIM alone for provision so that when it comes, the world around will be staggered at HIS reality and faithfulness. Costly yes, but well worth the price! :-D

muller belived in praying to god so people could see that there was a god... a god who awnsers....

I'm reminded of Rees Howell who said something like "The meaning of prayer is answer." He was a man who entered into a covenant with God that he would only accept into His hand what God would provide. He didn't have fund raisers nor did he use the flesh to advocate for funds.
