Afraid? Of What? by J.W. Vinson

sermonindex Aug 23, 2006

Afraid? Of What?
To feel the spirit's glad release?
To pass from pain to perfect peace?
The strife and strain of life and cease?
Afraid? -of that?

Afraid? Of what?
Afraid to see the Saviour's face?
To hear His welcome, and to trace
The glory gleam from wounds of grace?
Afraid? -of that?

Afraid? Of what?
A flash -a crash -a pierced heart;
Darkeness -light -O heaven's art!
A wound of his counterpart!
Afraid? Of that?

Afraid? Of what?
To do by death what life could not-
Baptize with blood a stony plot,
Till souls shall blossom from the spot?
Afraid? Of that?

Umm...this poem reminds me of what a relative of ours said one time: "why do we fight so hard to live (meaning: to go to great lengths to fight terminal illnesses) when we know that when we die we will be with the LORD?" She later died quite suddenly.

Thanks for posting this poem.

This is a radical poem written from the heart of a man that is truly ready to die for the cause and name of Christ!

"Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you. and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake." -Matthew 5:11

"Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you." - 1 John 3:13
