Shock&Awe Videos

sermonindex Aug 25, 2006

It's been heavy on my heart for some time now to film and edit good, solid, biblical open air preaching.

So I recently started the job.

Here are my first two videos.

Many more are coming soon!!

OPERATION SHOCK & AWE

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E1BtMvtUpQ
(This is actually part two, but is more fitting as part one. It comes with special WarCry battle theme introduction)

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4Isjq6GBxM
(With rare and never before released footage)

I listened Jesse, to several vids.

Question[s]:

1. Where is the message of reconcilation?

2. Where is the message of God's love?

3. Where is God's love in your tone?

Most of all I heard was a hard note of condemnation from your opinion, even though you may have quoted from the scriptures. Your opinion was all I heard which made the scriptures you quoted of none effect. I can argue with your opinion and they did. I can't argue with the scriptures that have power in themselves. That then raises the issue of anointing upon the scriptures you used.. I didn't sense any. Consequently, you "piped a tune and nobody sang; you sang a dirge and nobody mourned".

So I need to ask you, do you believe your calling to be because of the need for souls to be saved or is your calling of the Lord Jesus Christ, to be in union with Him?

Respectfully,

Orm

I have to agree with the other guy, you didnt preach the word of God, all you did was argue theology with people.

Yes, when the gospel is preached the people will come, but they will come in an attitude of repentance not an argument of arguing as most of your video showed.

Everytime yuo talked you were shot down as if you had no authority.

I really think you should reconsider if you are actually called of God or if your just sacrificing your time in doing something you think your led to but arent

yours

The video clips I had available were very limited.

The ones I used were not the best as far as content goes.

And were not the best either as far as crowd interaction goes.

This past semester we preached on the campuses 5 days a week, for 6-7 hours a day.

During that time the crowd would be arguementative, or quite and respectful.

Sometimes they would heckle, sometimes ask questions.

Sometimes they would ask a theological question or make a theological comment that needed to be comment on, because they were hiding their sin behind it.

Sometimes they would ask an apologetical question or make an apologetical comment, regarding evolution or something of that sort. So we needed to give an apologetical answer.

Sometimes we focus on preaching against sin and preaching the Law, if the crowd was proud.

Other times we emphasised grace and mercy, if the crowd was humble.

Every audience and every campus and every open air is different.

But the clips I had from last semester were not the best clips, as you can see.

But now that I have a video camera I'll be able to get clips with much better content.

So more videos are coming soon.

So more videos are coming soon.
This would be helpful, Jesse, as really, it’s hard to see the wider picture in just a few moments of video.
I wonder why you are posting them for us. Are seeking input to help you grow in your walk?

This comment grabbed me:

as if you had no authority

You, know even before seeing these words, I had been thinking along the same lines. I sense a need for authority in your message and in your life in general. Passers-by no doubt can see that. And that’s why you don't seem convincing. Without authority they will tend to view you as one of the many who are spouting opinions.

Recently God has been teaching me something about authority: We cannot have genuine authority unless we are first able to SUBMIT to authority. Consider an accomplished musician. He cannot become an authority (expert) without first submitting to those who have more authority than him – that means those who have themselves gone further down the road, who know and understand more.

I might add that there are countless musicians out there who think that they are great, and can even draw a crowd for a time. But really they are quite mediocre. They are relying on their own self-evaluation and their popularity rather than submitting to those who know more then them.

All that rambling to point out that I have been following your journey over the last while and noticed that SI members with genuine authority have been giving you guidance. So I eagerly watched these videos hoping to see the results of your submission. I have to say, that my heart was grieved, as I didn’t feel convinced that you have fully submitted.

I still believe that there is a purpose for you being here and for sharing what you are doing. I trust that you will come to value the need to submit to authority - both human and divine. It is the humble path to gaining authority in your life and your message.

Consider these words from a man who had genuine authority:
“My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith may not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.’ 1 Cor. 2:4

The glory that excels

The Lord . . . hath sent me that thou mightest receive thy sight. Acts 9:17.

When Paul received his sight he received spiritually an insight into the Person of Jesus Christ, and the whole of his subsequent life and preaching was nothing but Jesus Christ—“I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.” No attraction was ever allowed to hold the mind and soul of Paul save the face of Jesus Christ.

We have to learn to maintain an unimpaired state of character up to the last notch revealed in the vision of Jesus Christ.

The abiding characteristic of a spiritual man is the interpretation of the Lord Jesus Christ to himself, and the interpretation to others of the purposes of God. The one concentrated passion of the life is Jesus Christ. Whenever you meet this note in a man, you feel he is a man after God’s own heart.

Never allow anything to deflect you from insight into Jesus Christ. It is the test of whether you are spiritual or not. To be unspiritual means that other things have a growing fascination for you.

I wonder why you are posting them for us.

The purpose of me making these videos is to "convict the sinners and comfort the Saints" which ought to be the goal of all preaching.

I want these videos to encourage the body of Christ. But not only encourage them to open air preach, but also equip them for the tast.

It seems the videos are doing their job!

I normally do not share personal emails, but these are a few that have really encouraged me:

Here is a young brother in the Lord, who wants to start open air preaching!

What I see you doing, as far as your preaching goes, is very similar to what I read in scripture. My heart longs to be involved with REAL Christianity. I can remember around a year ago, I came accross your website and read of the stories, especially the one when you went to Orlando and witnessed the gross immorality and preached there with others. When I read that story, my eyes flooded with tears because of it
and I so wished that I could go with you and preach.

Since last year, when I first saw your preaching
and desired to be involved somehow in what your doing, that desire still has been in me, sometimes more, sometimes less. I cannot help but express my mind to you. I see these videos of the preaching that is going on and see God moving among you and its as though the center of my soul is drawn to be preaching with you all, though I've never preached in my life, am just
16, all I have done is pass out tracts (perhaps from the time I was 14 to now, only 5,000), yet I so want to be involved by whatever means nessesery.

Here is one from a brother who was inspired by the ministry and the videos:

You are an inspiration to me! Going into the lion's den only shows to me that, Jesus did indeed rise from the dead. I viewed one of the videos and picked up on the fact that even church kids were arguing with you. Today, In America, being a Christian means nothing, and I mean nothing. At 21 it is incredible the call the Lord has placed on your life.

Seeing you reminds me of this verse: A MAN WHO IS DILIGENT IN HIS WORK, WILL STAND BEFORE KINGS. Since you represent the KING OF KINGS, the Lord will give you audience in places you can't even imagine. The Gospel today has little relevance. I'm convinced that few people in the church are saved.

Little do the people that hear you speak realize, that just like when Jesus was being nailed to the cross, He was dying to save the ones pounding in the nails, when you preach, you are doing it for the ones that taunt and try to humiliate you. Please keep carrying your cross. We need a million more like you! I'm convinced that the place missionaries are needed most in the world, IS IN THE AMERICAN CHURCH!

COLLEGE CAMPUS CROWDS REMIND ME OF what Paul said in the book of Romans, "PROFESING THEMSELVES TO BE WISE, THEY HAVE BECOME FOOLS! " Never back down dear brother! Be clothed in the Lord and in the power of His might! THE HOUR IS LATE AND THE LABORERS ARE FEW

Here's one from another young brother who was encouraged and wants to start preaching!

Hey Brother Jesse,

I just watched those two videos, they encouraged my soul very much, may the Lord use them for His Glory! Man i sure would love to come with you guys on a circut. If theres ever an opening let me know please.

I'm always excited when I get emails from people who want to start preaching, because the Lord said that the laborers are so few!!

We should be grieved and burdened over sinners going to hell so much, that we would lay down our reputations and our comforts to give them warning. Yet how few of us actually do that!

So I'm very glad people are being encouraged on these videos to take the gospel to where it belongs!

But I not only want these videos to encourage Christians, I am also hoping that unsaved people who surf YouTube might come across these videos, come under conviction of their sin, and put their faith in Jesus Christ.

I know that the Word of God will never return void. It will get the job done.

N
NLONG Aug 25, 2006

Say haven't had time to watch the videos, but I sure am glad that someone is getting off their rear and getting out there sharing the gospel ... which does have just as much judgment as grace. Presenting one without the other is not the gospel. We don't know of our need for repentence, and the grace of a Savior, until we've been stripped naked by the Law (the awareness of sin).

I sure hope that all those who are commenting have done some preaching. Otherwise, get the plank out.

This raises a good question--True or false--there is there a universal call to preach the gospel given by Jesus before his ascension. This to every creature and into the whole world.

M
myfirstLove Aug 25, 2006

jesse, i agree with diane's post. please consider her words and allow God to refine you.

should all christians be out preaching the gospel? thats a pretty scary thought. not all are ready. paul was counted worthy to preach.

paul encourage all to live holy lives, but God's word were committed to faithful men in the house and outside (women can preach outside).

King James Version (KJV)

11According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

12And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

1 Thessalonians 2:4

4 But as we have been APPROVED by God to be ENTRUSTED WITH THE GOSPEL, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.

Romans 2
God’s Righteous Judgment
1 Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. 2 But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things. 3 And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

those who preach hypocritical are storing wrath upon themselves so i wouldn't encourage all christians to preach, but my desire would make sure that they are first in a right standing with God.

read about bishop and deacon too.

not all can handle the word or called too. thank God for that! many preachers need to be driven to the wilderness first, so they may come out filled with God, humbled and totally broken. then will they be fit to preach and give Him glory.

Hello Jesse,

I would just like to say: God bless you for the obedience in your heart and for preaching the whole counsel of God. I thank God for the fruit in your life and the love God has given you.

"Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed." Isaiah 66:5

"Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men: Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins always: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost." [1 Th 2:15-16]

Personally I think Jesse you need to plainly stop looking for the approval of men and do simply what God has put on your heart to do. There is way to much controversy that you try to arise at times and if it for the sake of growth of others I could understand but mostly it goes beyond that.

I love you brother and have enjoyed our times of fellowship but I would say to you that just go and not look for the approval or applause of men, even making these type of videos really doesn't do much for your ministry as towards God.

Be of no reputation and seek the glory of Christ alone. I hope that does not tear down anything that is from God but brings devestation to any of your own kingdoms you are building in your heart even the small ones. Go onwards of the glory of Christ alone and make known His gospel. time is short and we will all be before Him.

"marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you." - 1 John 3:13

The ones I used were not the best as far as content goes.

This is pretty sad. Wouldn’t it be better to not make any video if this is all you had? Why you put out videos that paint you and your ministry in bad and negative light? Unless you don’t think they do paint you in a bad and negative like the others here have suggested.

Jesse quotes from the video:

“There is one kind of sex God wants you have and this called HOLYYYYYYY SEXXXX!!!!!”

“God has a stone that says ‘Thou shalt not commit adultery’ and one day He who is without sin is going to cast that stone and he who has committed adultery and has refused to repent will be SSMMAASSHHEEDD!!!!!!!!!! by that stone on Judgment Day.”

Are you SERIOUSSSSSSSSSSS! Is that what Jesus said to the woman who was accused of adultery? Did Jesus say “He who is without sin is going to cast a stone and SSMMAASSHHHHHHH you on Judgment Day”????? I agree with pervious poster who said you should really question whether you are called from the Lord or if you have made up your supposed calling in you own mind. These videos are pretty sick and reflect what I have been saying all along. This type of preaching does very little if anything at all to bring people into the Kingdom of God. At best this is just an open air Jerry Springer show with a few Scriptures mixed in and done in the name of Jesus.

Here are a few more videos and picture of Jesse and his friends that further prove my point. Take a look and you be the judge.

This is exactly what we were talking about in the thread “Can A Lost Sinner Stop Sinning?” here is the link and some excerpts from that thread. https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=11984&forum=36&44

All their preaching does is bring bondage and death. That is why you don't hear of people being miraculous freed from the bondage of sin- there is no freedom and life just condemnation and death. They go to rock concert and condemn rock music fans. They go to sporting events and preach against ticket scalpers. The go to beaches and preach against inappropriate dress and go to college campuses and preach against fraternities. I am not kidding they REALLY do this sort of thing and think they are doing a good thing for Jesus, but in reality they know nothing of the Gospel and only bring condemnation and death hardening sinner ever more against Jesus.

Jesse wrote: Yes a sinner is capable of stopping his sin. That is why God "commands all men everywhere to repent."

God only commands the possible. He doesn't require apples from peach trees. He doesn't cut down and burn peach trees for not bearing apples.

and

But yes, a sinner does not have to sin.

This is the type of attitude many street preachers have that I spoke of previously. This type of attitude leads to self-righteous condemnation and accusing sinners for being sinners and thus being co-workers of Satan the great accuser. These preachers condemn sinners for their dress, lifestyles, music, entertainment etc. and tell them that must repent and stop sinning. They condemn apples trees for acting like apple trees and producing apples.

Do we use the law or sins mentioned in Scripture to point out the fact that(as Greg so apply put it) we have a terrible heart condition that we can't fix - that we need a heart transplant - YES ABSOLUTELY. The sin shows us or diagnoses the problem - original sin or our heart condition. To tell sinners that rap music or provocative dress (for example) is a sin and that they need to repent and stop sinning is just condemning and useless. This type of self-righteous condemnation preaching just pushes people away from Jesus and hardens their hearts.

Steet preaching is not just evangelistic. It is the tip of the spear when it comes to confronting the powers of the age.
The public arena is where Jesus lived, he was born in public, a stable of sorts, he died in public nailed to a cross. Nearly every miracle and event in the gospels happened in the market place, in public or on a road somewhere... In the book of Acts I think it is 39 of the 43 miracles happened in public. Our faith is the public faith, we have lost the culture war because we have lost the streets.
When our mouths declare the truth of God and the righteousness of God we tear down the lies, now the most effective way is with a demonstration of power, but we all have to grow in the ways of the miraculous! Going and opening our mouths is the starting place! This lad if he is trying to self promote etc. God will deal with him, and the Lord can through your words, but be warned when you tear at something that rubs you the wrong way. The ways of God are higher than ours and the message we preach is foolishenss to the world. Their efforts are noble becuase the word has gone forth. If they did not go how would those people hear? Or would you prefer them to hear nothing? Or maybe you could go in their stead?(GO YE) God will use the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, he will use the rough things, the awkward things, the not so polished things, the most unlikely of sorts to communicate His message.
A man lieing on his side for a long time eating food prepared over donkey poo-poo was God's way, actually the Lord wanted some skubalon, human poo-poo for fuel! This is very strange to our western minds, but that is the problem, our western minds, unregenerate as they are are the enemies of God!
May God grant us eyes to see and ears to hear what the spirit is saying today! (GO YE)

Phl 1:18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

What an incredible verse this is. It is God's responsibility to judge the motives behind what men do, not our responsibility. It's amazing to me that Paul could rejoice over even the gospel being preached in pretense when he himself was bound in prison! He could rejoice that Christ was being named even though it was to hurt him personally, amazing! Oh, that we would have hearts like this to see Jesus shine and be exalted even if we must be splattered with mud and humbled. Where is that spirit in this thread?

In Christ,

I'd like to issue an apology if I have given the impression that I'm looking to steal any glory or honor away from Jesus!! God forbid!!! What a terrible crime that is!!

My only motive behind making these videos is to promote the Kingdom of God. And to spread a message of repentance and faith in Jesus even on the internet.

There is such a lack of good open air preaching videos. There are a few out there, but only a few. But if we are going to reach the masses, the Churches need to have some open air preachers. And I'd like to just do my apart, even if it's small, to help that.

A great need today is for open air preachers who will call America and the world to repentance and faith. Who, "knowing the terror of the Lord" will "persuade men" knowing that "by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil".

I only want people to be encouraged by these videos and possibly equipped.

These videos are not the best, but I still think they are good.

The next ones will be even better, because I'll be able to film a lot of other preachers who are far, far better at preaching then I am.

Once again, I apologies if I have ever given the impression that I'm seeking glory by what I am doing. I am not. In fact, my ministry often brings the opposite upon me.

But God's will be done. And God's Word be preached!!

sermonindex Aug 26, 2006

I have prayed to the Lord before I wrote this response to you, so as not to be speaking from my flesh or to stumble a brother like yourself.

You said the reason for posting these video's was to "comfort the saints". I am a sinner saved by Grace and the wonderous provisions of Jesus Christ, and I am here to tell you that I am NOT comforted.

Quite the opposite, I am grieved to my core, to the depth of my soul for several reasons in response to what I viewed on your video's.

The first reason I am grieved and heartbroken is that you are NOT preaching the Love of Jesus, His sacrifice, His Passion, you are not preaching Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

Instead your are haranguing and dealing out harsh human condemnation upon lost and hurt people, and doing it under the guise of some twisted interpetation of what you percieve as the "Lord's calling" upon you, to engage in argumentative public confrontations upon people who live on a knife's edge of decideing whther to drink of the Living Waters or not, and you instead in your fleshly immaturity offer them bile and wormwood. I do NOT see the Heart of Christ in your public utterances.

We are told to make the Gentiles ENVIOUS of this great love we have recieved, and there is nothing in your public ministry that would make the Gentiles envious of what we have recieved.
(edit)

You say you preach out of love to save the lost, from those who do not believe in this great salvation, to save them from eternal separation from a just God, but after witnessing your public ministry, I say that you are doing the opposite, you are driving them AWAY from Jesus.

I noticed that your "audience" maintains a far distance from you. Don't fall into the delusion that this is because you are holy, and the devil within them recoils from this holiness. It is because even the lost hurting conused poeple wandering the campus can discern that there is no love within you, only a hateful argumentative harsh spirit, and people, instinctly recoil from such venom, as you display. There is no meekness, no love, and no humility nor winsomeness in your public discourse.

I know you fancy yourself as engaging in a "John the Baptist" type of ministry, but remember this, John the Baptist was only a forerunner of Christ, who said he was not fit to tie the sandals of Jesus. and John the Baptist was in loving intimate ministry with desperate people, he touched them when he baptised them, He got up close and personal when ministering to the lost and hurting.

You have told me that you loved the "Life of Brainerd", and I assume you have read this annointed and wonderful book of this saints journals. I have read it three times, I say that not to boast, but there is something heavenly and inspiring about the writing of this precious saint. Fully the first third of his journals is lamenting his unworthiness for minstry and his unprofitability to discharge his calling of God, he underwent much preparation and self examination before he went among the Indians and frontier folk, and then he preached to them with gehtleness and humility, and the fruit recived was a true miracle, so uplifting.

Have you REALLY read this book with an open heart? Have you ever tried to model your ministry on this yielded saint?

From what i have seen on the videos I think not.

Even two "church-goers" as you so termed them, called you on what you are doing, and instead of engaging them in a respectful repose of listening, you just shouted over them. That black sister was testifying with more authority than you could muster. I oculd discern that she loved Jesus, and you were doing your worst to alienate her. That gray haired lady, who called you a little boy, was trying to engage you in correction, and you just shouted her down.

Thats not Jesus' love, that just fleshly religious pride and immaturity.

Dear sister Diane wrote you a wise post and you totally blew her off, or even addressed her concerns in a thoughtful loving manner, rejoicing that an older sister in the Lord was attempting to help steer you in a direction that will yield fruit.

You just closed your ears and mind, because you are OUT of submission to the Body of Christ, you are out of submission to Godly correction. You are a 21 year old kid, newly saved and you are wandering around like a bull in a china shop, except that china is just a piece of ceramic, we are talking about the souls of people.

Furthermore, I always thought the title of this minstry of yours "Operation Shock and Awe" was a poor choice of words, totally out of synch with the message of Grace, its more like something that a bunch of zealot kids cooked up.

I remember my BC days, and if I was unfortunate to stumble across your public ministry, your ill prayed out public utterances would have driven me far from a God whose message is Love and Grace in Jesus Christ. I shudder to think how many of the lost you are driving away on those public campus's.

Now let me talk about the plank in my eye. Krispy and I had been engaging in cyber tussles over the most trivial issues, stuff we disagree on, but God loves us both, and in the unity of Christ, and thru PM's we have come to love one another, it was only THRU Christ that we were able to do this.

I write these words not to hurt you, or insult you, make you feel bad about yourself, or to discourage you from public ministry, I write them as the Lord leads me, because I am so grieved at what I saw in those videos, and I must admonish you on this, and urge you to seek a time in the desert to be honed by God, becuase you are going off the rails, big time, and stumbling others in the process, and bringing discredit to Jesus' message of love and grace in Him.

Many will try and flatter you, I was quite baffled why instead of adressing the concerns of Diane, you post private emails written by those who desire to flatter itching ears. It smacks of religious pride.

I pray Greg reads this and discerns my intent on writing such a harsh letter to you, not to start trouble, but by clearly and forthrightly rebuking you in the Holy Spirit, not in my flesh nor in my opinion.

Here's the last thing that grieves me, in the past those in this fellowship have attempted to call you, a 21 year old, on a ministry that has gone awry. I feel that all I have poured out from my heart to you will just fall on deaf immmature eras, and you will just continue to engage in a ministry that bears bile, argument, confusion and hatred, while dressing it in the Robes of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I won't pray against your ministry, but I pray you will wake up and see your error.

Hoping against hope, bartle

I've been following you too for awhile. I speak from a limited view-point, albeit, but I still will share with you what I feel. I may be wrong, and God will have to be the judge of my words, but anyhow...

I believe there is something grievely wrong with the way that you and your "team" conduct yourself. I cannot put my finger on any direct thing except that you barely ever mention Jesus Christ & His resurrection. I say this as a fellow brother in the Lord: I just see something amiss in your ministry Jesse. Something doesn't resonate with my spirit with what you guys are doing.

I just do not understand how you can yell at people in their sins and tell them to 'stop sinning' as if this was some works based religion. They can't stop sinning! They need Jesus to free them from their sin! Why did you not mention Jesus??!?! I don't get it man. I honestly haven't heard you really preach the Gospel, ever. That saddens me. I see a lack of focus on the whole theme of what you are to be preaching, that God has made a plan for man to come to Him, and it is through Jesus Chrsit, it is His reconciliation. This, I do not see, or hear. All I see is you yelling and arguing with sinners, which is pointless. Do you think Paul argued with sinner's, theologically or whatnot? No, he came with no intellectual knowledge but what he had known in Christ. There are times for reasoning, sure, but when you are preaching to lost sinners, you don't try to debate with them and tell try to convince them that their lost. God does that.

I know it is just a bird's eye, from what I've heard and seen, but nonetheless it does speak for itself. What you uploaded in all of your past videos reflects what you deem important and whatnot. You may say this is not all of what you preached, but it is still an unacceptable, works-based, Gospel, I believe.

Greg, while he shouldn't seek the approval of men, he should seek the discernment, encouragement, and support from his fellow brothers & sisters in Christ. (I don't think he was searching for approval in the first place though.)

I hope my words are not taken offensively, I only mean to share with you what is on my heart.
