Crushed with Conviction

sermonindex Aug 27, 2006

I wanted to request prayer for a lost sinner I was able to speak with tonight.

A big team went out tonight to some bars and clubs in Missouri, with gospel t-shirts and banners, and we had quite a ministry.

God was really with the team and blessed us with large crowds all night, as well as blessed us with answers to their questions.

While I can't say we were warmly recieved by all, because I was attacked by a person, one sinner in particular God really got a hold of.

He said he had 6 felonies by the age of 15 etc etc. But when I started speaking the Word of God to him, within mere seconds the terror and fear of God fell upon him!

His mouth was "stopped" and he saw himself "guilty before God". It seemed that every word was a deadly blow that was crushing him with conviction.

I didn't hold back any. I really laid out the whole word of God, about condemnation and sin and wrath and eternal hell.

Finney said something to the affect of, "I never tell a sinner about grace if they can look me in the eye still."

Well, that was the condition of this sinner within just moments of talking to him. He went from mocking and joking, to being almost terrified.

He couldn't look me in the eyes. But when he did, they were on the verge of tears.

After continuing to preach the Word, about sin and the crucified Savior, I felt that it was time to let God deal with him alone.

I said, "You need to get down and pray out to God and ask him if there is any mercy for you."

Right then, he fell down, on the sidewalk, in front of the whole crowd of 20-30 mocking, scoffing people, and started praying out to God.

He didn't get up until maybe 5 minutes later, because someone he was with came to get him.

It was powerful.

God was with us.

The devil was fighting us.

But God is able to save to the utter most!!

Please continue to pray for this man.

God was heavily working on him.

May sinners tremble at the thunderings of sinai! May they tremble and quake! This verse comes to my mind:

"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, you will not despise."

How sweet it is to mourn! How sweet it is to weep! The Comforter Jesus Christ alone can comfort those who are broken and contrite. Jesus Christ raises the dead! Not the living!

"God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

Thankyou Jesse for posting, prayers have been made for him.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom".

As John Bunyan said, "No fear? No grace!"

"By the fear of the Lord men depart from evil."

"Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord we persuade men."

A sinner said to us, "you are just trying to scare the **** out of us."

I responded with, "No, I want to scare the sin out of you! I want to scare the hell out of you!".

And praise God, it seems the Spirit did it!!

As Wilkerson pointed out, "fear means fear". He pointed out in Hebrews how reverence and fear are two totally different things biblical, because the Word says, "serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear".

Also please pray for the girl friend of the young man I spoke to. I'm told by another preacher that the Lord was really working on her as well.

It was just amazing to see how powerfully the Spirit of God was at work on these people.
