Atheist lives with christian family for 30 days

sermonindex Sep 23, 2006

Over the past 4 months I have been having on and off convo with an unbeliever who is into conspiracy theory stuff as well as questioning everything about christianity. Recently he loaned me his Ipod to watch a tv program he had downloaded; 30 DAYS. This one was about the athiest who lives with christian family for 30 days. It was both interesting and painful to watch.

The producers goal is usually to get people to see that we are all the same and we shouldn't say "our" way is the only way type approach.

There are several points I would like to bring up but I will only address one for now. It's the false idea that living in America means freedom "from" religion as opposed to freedom "of" religion.Big diffrence.

There is a scene in the episode where the athiest takes the christian couple to a local coffee shop to meet fellow athiest. Initially the athiest put forth the "we feel persecuted for our beliefs and just want to live in peace", approach. Well that would be nice but thats not reality either in real life nor as the convo progress's. The christian apologizes for other christians not loving their neighbor as they should. Then a little later the greater goal of the athiest is revealed in the convo. Remove "In God we trust" from the money and remove all crosses and any refrence to religion from public places.
It's really important to understand that "most" athiest mentality is shaped and heads towards remove everything from public life that reference religion. They have a misunderstanding/outright rebellion against God and his laws.

Another point to be made is that seperation of church and state does not mean seperation of God from governament and public life. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR CHRISTIANS TO UNDERSTAND.
For those who have not watched the 30 day episode you acn find it on the net and watch or download.

Also One of the best teaching on the God and government realtion is Judge Roy moores "Law of the Land" dvd. I initialy had my doudts about this but after watching this teaching it removed those doudts and gave me a clearer understanding of the relationship. You can probably get ahold of this dvd from his website or visionforums website.

Again I remind all that it's freedom "of" religion not freedom "from" religion. God bless, John

Where in the word does it say we ought to have any reference to God outside of how our conduct and very lives should be displaying Him? If we removed "In God we Trust" from the money what would that change? if our lives we anywhere near where they were supposed to be in terms of glorifying God by our speech, conduct there would be no need for any display because our lives would take care of that.
all such pious displays count for nothing if our lives don't show forth God which is the case hence the impending judgment (which must first begin with us His Church)

i'm reminded of when Titus took Jerusalem in 70 a.d. he came through the gentile court, and the jews told him to go no further. he went to the holy place and was told go no further because if he entered the Holiest place he would die. when he pulled back the temple curtain which separated the holy of holies from the holy place, nothing happened and he wondered what all the fuss was about coz there was nothing there. it seems to me all this is like what those jews were doing when titus came. trying to protect something which once was where God dwelt but all the while God had long since left on account of their rebellion. This is where we are. Lord help us!AMEN.

Ironman I hope you read my post carefully on th roy moore thread concerning primary importqance of revival and the fruit following.

Now as far as where it's written the whole of scripture testifies of God's laws being written and displayed and read. Also men by natural nature will make displays and monuments etc.

Look to Russia and Romania as recent examples of what happens when athestic communist take over a country. See the millions killed by this Godless doctrine.

I think a little bigger perspective of how God deals with men is needed. Remember God establishes nations. How unsearchable are his judgments!

p.s. I will find a website on roymoore video for you

Now as far as where it's written the whole of scripture testifies of God's laws being written and displayed and read. Also men by natural nature will make displays and monuments etc.

but how necessary is it?is there scripture to back this idea that we need to display it like that? which is more important, the display or the law being on our hearts? remember how Israel had the 10 commandments and they still went astray and in spite of having written scriptures on piece of cloth which the hung on their clothes, they still went astray and God saw it as the sham it was. God saw all these things but saw in their hearts they were far from Him. Which is where we are.

Look to Russia and Romania as recent examples of what happens when athestic communist take over a country. See the millions killed by this Godless doctrine.

i'm glad you brought up this issue bro. yes very many people were brutalized by these godless regimes. however look at the fruit this produced, preachers like Joseph Tson and Richard Wurmbrand whose testimonies of the grace of God working for them and in them harken back to the first days of the Church when the persecution started. Now those who are truly of God and endured it all had not even a bible to read in most cases but they endured. They certainly had no displays or anything to look to but God Himself and He came through. These are the ones on whose hearts God's law is written and so they had no need for all this other stuff. Sure it was brutal but it produced a crop of on-fire, sold-out to Jesus men and women and what do we have to show for all our displays except lukewarmness and laxity? God spits out the lukewarm... bro i envy those brothers and sisters, the fire of persecution left only those who were sold out while the rest fell away. God's glory was shone in a way in them which we have not seen in ourselves.

I think a little bigger perspective of how God deals with men is needed. Remember God establishes nations. How unsearchable are his judgments!

the only perspective which matters is God's own and it seems to me He's not concerned about outward displays of anything if it's not backed up by what is in our hearts. what good does it do us to pretend when He sees through it all? Hypocracy makes God really angry...God does set up the governments, some specifically atheistic/idolatrous for executing His judgments and so on and He will play nations off against eachother for His own glory.

just like the brethren were persecuted in Romania and Russia and so on, so shall we here in America be tried and tested by the same fire. God knows we need it for we have much dross to get rid of. There are many people who are running around here purporting to be Christians that are not and the Fire of Judgment will sweep them away leaving only the true Christians so we know who we're rolling with and we can get the work done and go Home.

hey bro, personally, i don't care if every monument gets torn down/removed or whatever coz God's writing it all on my heart. if they want to remove that they have to kill me which is fine, there is a martyr's crown for that so either way by God's grace i come out the victor! When it is all said and done, God is going to see to the removal of all such displays by crazy men (i guess in our eyes) whom He shall raise up for that and also to persecute us to see who is His and who is not. He will also straighten us out and bind us tightly to Him and to eachother so we can get the harvest in and out of here. i look forward to the fire coz God knows i need it and He knows we all need it!

Thanks for the continual insight on your take if things.

I would add as I did in the roy moore thread. That the heart of the case that the judge over roymoore said was, Can the state acknowledge God? the answer was NO.

Have you heard Rev. Lawrence whites message The Sin of Silence? That could be helpfull.

I agree that God looks at the heart and then it reflects out into our life. This is part of how that reflects out.

I'm glad you will try and watch the video. I would really like to hear your take on it after you consider what is said on the video.

God bless, John

hey bro
well you know the beauty of fellowship as God has shown it to me is that He teaches us all, well those who would want to learn anyway by using us in this manner. the junk gets rubbed off while the shiny buts get polished so they stand out more.

i haven't heard that sermon, is that available on s.i.? let me have a link if it is. my computer has no sound so i'll have to get to all this next week but i am looking forward to it all coz i know God will show me more and He knows i'm diligently tyring to seek Him!

I agree that God looks at the heart and then it reflects out into our life. This is part of how that reflects out.

see that's something new too i hadn't thought about. i guess a deeper thing is the spirit in which we do these things; knee-jerk reflex or Holy Spirit unctioned.

God bless bro

I just did a search on S.I. and I did not readily see it.

I originaly heard the mesage on the Bott radio network sevaral years back. I then ordered a copy from them. They are out of Kansas city I think. They probably have it on their website.

Also Focus on the Family has it or a very similar one By Dr. Lawrance White on their site as well.

God bless bro, John
