I went in for surgery today on my teeth because I had an infection. I needed to have 4 wisdom teeth surgically removed and back tooth.
They put me to sleep during the surgery and when I woke up I felt pretty high on drugs. When you are in that state, you don't really think much but basicly just share whatever is on your heart.
Well, the first thing I said to this nurse I had never met before was, "Do you know the Lord?"
I think she was pretty shocked at my forwardness, especially since it was the first thing I said when I woke up. And I was shocked too, but that was what was on my heart.
She said, "Yes actually I do. I'm Catholic."
I said, "Do you read your bible?"
She said, "Yes."
I said, "Very, very good!"
She said, "That is a mis-conception about Catholics, that we don't read our bibles."
I said, "Well, I know that when I was a Catholic, I didn't read my bible."
Then went on to say, "You should read the gospel of John. It's my favorite."
She said, "The gospel of John? Ok."
A few seconds went by and I said, "You should read the gospel of John. It's my favorite.....um...I can't remember, did I already say that to you?"
She laughed and said, "yes, you did."
I said, "Oh, ok then. I just wanted to confirm it."
I was still coming down from the drugs..
Anyways, surgery went good and the witnessing encouragement was my favorite part!
