Biblical Soul Winning

sermonindex Oct 3, 2006

During our family camp last weekend we had an impromptu teaching time with Bill Stewart, a missionary in Korea to our servicemen. He has been in Korea for over twenty years.
These are the notes from this teaching time. I apologize if it seems kind of choppy. My notes do not fully cover everything that was shared. Mr. Stewart had very little time to share with us so it is really covering just the basic basics of soul winning. I love gleaning from different Godly men on how to witness effectually. The two points that stayed with me was it must be Christ living through us, and secondly how vital it is that we pray much before we go out and witness.
I hope this blesses those who read it, and I also hope that this doesn't turn into a tumultuous debate on soul winning, but rather that each would read it and glean from it what God has for them in it.
All Scripture is taken from the KJV.
God bless each one of you as you seek to glorify our wonderful Lord more and more!

Biblical Soul Winning

Bill Stewart

2 Peter 1:1-10, vs. 8, “For if these things [previously mentioned in the passage] be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Soul winning is simply Christ being lived through you and your faith.

We’re supposed to work out what God has worked in.

A person can spot out if you’re really concerned about them when you witness.

Pray that God will give you the compassion of your Lord.

The spirit of witnessing is prayerfulness.

Intercessory prayer is the key to soul winning.

Your soul winning must begin at the Throne of God.

1. Pray for God to guide you.
a. Pray until you have that guidance, even if it means an hour of getting through.

2. Go guided and you will know what He wants you to do.

Bible Salvation
John 7:37-39, “….He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said…”

You ask someone if they have been saved and most will say yes. But you must ask them if they have been saved the way the Bible says to be saved.

We can tough emotions, but only the Word of God can go into the depths of their soul.

Hide the Word of God in your heart. Memorize verses that God can use to touch other lives. Sometimes you will only have enough time with a person to share a verse or two with them.

Scripture is what speaks to men’s hearts.
1.\tRomans 3:23 – All have sinned.

2.\tRomans 6:23- What is a wage? It’s what you’ve earned. Go into death/separation from God. God’s gift is eternal life – a gift. It doesn’t cost us anything, but Him everything.

3.\tJohn 1:12 – “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” Drive home what that gift is. Explain ‘power’ as the authority and right to become a child of God.
a. A question to ask: “What gives you that right?” I have a right because Christ died for me that I might be saved. Christ took my place.\t

4.\tConclusion- Revelation 3:20 – Bring home what they need to do. Illustrate: God stands at the door and knocks. They know God is knocking on their hearts because of the Scripture you have already shared. God keeps knocking. Who has to open the door? We do. Christ comes in, to move in. Complete surrender to Jesus Christ.

The decision:
When they’re not ready, what do you do? Pray! Ask if you can pray for them right now and ask God to move in their hearts and save them.
Plead the Blood of Jesus Christ and His Name as you pray.

Bring them to a decision, God will use you, but be prepared for whatever their response may be. If they say ‘no’, let them go, then pray!

Ask the Lord to make you a soul winner, then pray and wait. You must be equipped.
Memorize Scripture and the Spirit will bring it forth when it’s needed.

We need to do a lot of weeping before we start speaking.

Read the life of Praying Hyde. He prayed first, and God used him mightily to win souls to Christ in India.

Roniya,

Thank you for taking these notes in the first place. I just want to point out to those of you who aren't note takers that I've often found that there is so much more to be gleaned from a sermon when you go back over notes that you have taken and meditate on the Scripture.

Thank you also for sharing your notes here with us, outstanding!

In Christ,

Ron

Thanks so much Roniya, some very helpful points.

"Soul winning is Christ being lived through you".

Oh that they might see Jesus in me. He must increase, I must decrease.

Thank you so much, Joy. I attended the session with Mr. Stewart, but was thinking afterwards how I should have taken notes. Thank you for sacrificing of your time to put these up here.
