Does anyone know why there are only five specific occurances of "Gave up the Ghost" in the Bible (KJV)? Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jesus, Ananias . . .
(edit) There are two more with "yeilded" - Jacob and Sapphira (and Jesus).
I noticed these also:
Lamentations 1:19
I called for my lovers, but they deceived me: my priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, while they sought their meat to relieve their souls.
of herod also:
Acts 12:23
And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
but yes this is a great word study and would be a good teaching.
