Flames of Living Fire

O for that flame of living fire,
Which shone so bright in saints of old!
Which bade their souls to Heav’n aspire,
Calm in distress, in danger bold.

Where is that Spirit, Lord, which dwelt
In Abraham’s breast, and sealed him Thine?
Which made Paul’s heart with sorrow melt,
And glow with energy divine?

That Spirit which, from age to age,
Proclaimed Thy love, and taught Thy ways?
Brightened Isaiah’s vivid page,
And breathed into David’s hallowed lays?

Is not Thy grace as mighty now
As when Elijah felt its power;
When glory beamed from Moses’ brow,
Or Job endured the trying hour?

Remember, Lord, the ancient days;
Renew Thy work; thy grace restore;
Warm our cold hearts to prayer and praise,
And teach us how to love Thee more.

Sometimes, when I look around at the world, and see the things taking place, I say to myself, as did Elisha, where is the Lord God of Elijah?

I tell myself, we are in the last days.
I tell myself. evil me and seducers will wax worse and worse.
I tell myself, all this has been prophesied in the word of God.

And yet...

I look for God. I have to seek Him. I'm not convinced that things should be as bad as they are.

I believe God is still all powerful. And even if things are bad, we should see or hear of God moving somewhere.

I know He is moving, and I want to see and hear about it.

Am I greedy, or desperate, or what?

God knows.

God bless.

I posted this beneath the umbrella of "Revival", because I thought it tied in nicely with Andrew Strom's discussion on the other thread - especially with Robert's mention of Isaiah 6. Surely, we need the old paths, the ancient ways to be rekindled aglow. Oh, for my soul to burst into flames with the cry "Woe unto me! I am undone!" Come, Thou God of Elijah, and torch my heart's cold altar anew with Thy living flame!

Scary looking?

Grim, I thought, but not scary.

Looks can be deceiving.

God bless.

O for that flame of living fire,

Which bade their souls to Heav’n aspire

Oh Lord kindle in this living flame of fire in my breast anew today! Lord I plead.

Make us a radiance of your glory,
Pillar's of fire that no man can ignore,
Ignite our souls with heaven's light,
So this dark world will see you once more!

Oh Lord please do it!
