Surgeon Marks Ends of Breast Cancer Awareness Month with November Surprise
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Illinois, Nov. 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- Dr. Angela Lanfranchi, MD FACS, Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in Piscataway, New Jersey, gave lectures this week on the “Impact of Reproductive Choices and the Risk of Breast Cancer.” Dr. Lanfranchi is a renowned breast cancer surgeon, having practiced breast cancer surgery for over twenty years. She is a graduate of the Georgetown School of Medicine, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery. She also is Vice President of the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute.
Dr. Lanfranchi is alarmed about the dramatic 40 percent increase in breast cancer incidents over the last thirty years, especially in young women and others in the “Roe v. Wade” generation. Especially egregious to her is the fact that breast cancer is the only cancer in the US which has continued to increase. She points to a woman’s biology to explain the troubling and often overlooked data, and says the scientific cause and effect is very clear.
Contrary to widely-held and often politically- motivated current beliefs, Dr. Lanfranchi laid out the biology and the long-running statistical evidence of the factual relationship between pregnancy terminations and the increase in breast cancer among women.
Following a month of pink ribbon promotions, participants, including medical students at the University of Illinois Medical School, were challenged with breast cancer science and facts, some for the first time. Dr. Lanfranchi explained how breast cancer develops as a result of an interaction among genetics, overexposure to estrogen, and breast tissue maturity.
Dr. Lanfranchi noted, “It is only social justice that women be informed of their risks so they can make intelligent choices.”
Karen Malec, President of the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer, agreed: “Abortion is a serious risk factor for breast cancer, and there’s no point in denying it while women’s health continues to fall victim to politics. In fact, it deprives women of an opportunity to make an informed choice.”
