Oh, Bliss of the Purified!

P
PaulWest Dec 28, 2006

Oh, bliss of the purified, bliss of the free,
I plunge in the crimson tide opened for me;
O’er sin and uncleanness exulting I stand,
And point to the print of the nails in His hand.

Oh, bliss of the purified! Jesus is mine,
No longer in dread condemnation I pine;
In conscious salvation I sing of His grace,
Who lifted upon me the light of His face.

Oh, bliss of the purified! bliss of the pure!
No wound hath the soul that His blood cannot cure;
No sorrow-bowed head but may sweetly find rest,
No tears—but may dry them on Jesus’ breast.

O Jesus the Crucified! Thee will I sing,
My blessèd Redeemer, my God and my King;
My soul, filled with rapture, shall shout o’er the grave,
And triumph in death in the “Mighty to Save.”

- Francis Bottome, 1869

Oh, bliss of the purified! Jesus is mine,
No longer in dread condemnation I pine;

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." - Romans 8:1

Oh may we all walk acording to the Spirit of God who is in us!

"if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live." - Romans 8:13

"let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." - 2 Corinthians 7:1

This is a blessed poem. Oh what bliss I have in Christ! What glorious freedom we have in Christ! I have been meditating on my own neediness and depraved state without Christ, but now I am looking to all that I have IN Christ. Glorious bliss! Can we ever fully comprehend all that we have in Christ this side of eternity?!

This is a blessed poem

Yes, this it is very blessed. I can scarcely read it without tears...because it is so pure and true. There is bliss in God's purity - bliss for the soul that has been washed in His purifying flames. O, to meet God in the secret place and come out purified and bloodwashed with your soul aflame. Blessed is the Christian who learns how to press through into the flames and abide there always.
