This week my 12y.o. daughter recounted the time when she was learning how to make a cup of tea, she poured the hot water into a cup and, following the instructons of her mum in another room, but in the teabag. Now follow the logic of a child when it comes to bags; crisps, shopping, handbags etc. all carry contents and have to be opened so the contents can come out. So she ripped open the teabag and poured the tealeaves into the hot water.
Proverbs 3 vs 5 says ; "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding"
When we read Scripture it's too easy to say 'I understand that' and skip over it, really we think we understand it, like my daughter thought she understood how to work a teabag, but actually we need to realise that too many times we miss whole area's of scripture that appear to be simple on the outside but inside they hold the most profound nuggets for our learning.
I like KrispyKritter's reason for reading the KJV bible, how that because the words are not as familier to us, we are encouraged to delve into the verses and find out God's meaning rather than just the interpretation of some editor/ translator.
I like the way God shows us something, if we read His word regularly and with intent, not just for the sake of it or to fulfil some commitment.
For example this week reading Luke over and over, in Ch 17 v 32 'Remember Lot's wife.' that's it just 3 words, but it stuck out to me to the point I had to go into Genesis and find out about lot's wife, I know in my understanding about her, but what more did God want me to learn, is He preparing me for something or warning me?
So be encouraged and remember we read His word to get to know Him, not to complete a 30 day quota or some goal we've set for ourselves.
Remember the teabag, somethings are so simple, we don't understand them.
