A tradition at my church is picking a personal key verse for the year that summarizes our spiritual aspirations for the coming year.
I don't know if other believers have such traditions, but I wanted to find out what others do, and what your verses are if you have one. Or maybe just resolutions...
My verse for 2006 was:
Romans 12: 1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Throughout 2006 my spiritual goal was to have a greater knowledge of sanctification and to be more disciplined, althought I can see some measured progress, through this search I was shown just how deep some of my sin is, and that I must not give up the fight!
For 2007 I have a similar but more difficult verse, because it gets to the heart of a lot of my problems.
[b]Ephesians 4:1-3 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
I am not humble, or gentle, or patient, or loving, and rarely peaceful... I didn't want to pick this verse, but I really felt the Spirit leading me to make this my verse for the year and to have this be the focus of my spiritual development for the year. I want to be an encourager and not a divider!
What spiritual goals or aspirations do you have for the year 2007?
