A Personal Witness Encounter, Part 16

I would like to share more of the many witness encounters that we have experienced last year and now 2007, to try and encourage those that are strong and mature in the faith, to also take up the Great Commission and try and reach lost souls for the Lord Jesus Christ, because 150,000 people die EVERYDAY, that's 7,000 an hour!

PART 16

With a cold wind and lovely blue sky to greet us, it wasn't long before we had an opportunity to do some one-on-one witnessing.

Rachel, a self-confessed peace activist/ socialist and big fan of Fidel Castro, was angry with me for preaching on the town steps against her good works. The concept of a God was totally foolish to her. She thought Jesus was a socialist and repeatedly said so when citing the feeding of the 5,000 as evidence of her private hypothesis.

This middle-aged woman was angry and bitter towards life. One of our friends tried several times to interject and answer some of her criticisms about the justice of God, but to no avail (please see photo-gallery for still.) By this stage it was a pretty much free for all. We all took it in turns to try and get Rachel to see the folly of her atheism and religion of socialism.

Her voice by this stage was getting louder and louder. Tears appeared in her eyes and one wondered if she might have been about to submit to God and repent. But no, she wasn't. Her defiant attitude and her old hippy lifestyle was really blinding her from the Truth of the Gospel.

Before we all parted, she gave our friend and hug and God willing all was left on good terms.

Just had a “chance” encounter to meet Rachel and how interesting it is that while we can discuss politics, WTO, capitalism and other issues of interest to people today, yet the minute I go to the Bible, the fur really hit’s the fan!

This self professed Communist was more than happy to spend 15 mins with me chewing over all the hot spots around the globe - Iran, North Korea and Zimbabwe - both of us agreed how dire these countries are and how persecuted people are that have to live under such MARXIST leaderships, while at the same time Rachel tried to uphold the justification for a socialist regime.

When I challenged her to show me just ONE example where socialism has worked in the world she couldn’t. When I pressed her further, she then turned the tables on me and asked me to demonstrate where capitalism has worked well in the world. Seeing as I wasn’t arguing for the latter in the fist place I really had little to say on this, apart from the fact that states which allow capitalism for the most part allow freedom of religion and free speech (this is now limited in the UK however.)

Anyway, I needed to returned to Biblical matters otherwise we’d spend all day on the flaws of politics in this fallen world. Funny this is, while she kept her cool during my criticism of men like Stalin, Lenin (her heroes) and other past Darwinist leaders, the moment I told her that mankind is inherently wicked, she went bananas. Talk about conviction of sin. I then (only just) managed to quote one verse to her, before she started to walk off in a huff: “There’s no a just man upon the face of the earth," I scarcely managed to tell her. She started to rant and rave about this and insisted I was wrong to say such a thing.

Next up, she wanted to tell me how silly it was to believe in God and nor had any evidence ever existed to prove the Bible was from God. To the contrary I told her. How was it that so many scientific facts are proven from Scripture? What about Isaiah telling us how the world was round, centuries before scientists "discovered" this? Was it by chance? She told me the earth came to be by chance. "Oh, come on" I told her, "please don't patronise me. When I was a child you might have been able to sell me this nonsense of evolution but I am now a grown man and I don't have enough faith to believe it." By this stage she was fuming and threatening to storm off. Finally, before she left, I told her how the Bible has 68 prophecies on Jesus Christ, written in the Bible hundreds of years before He was born, and each one came to pass as the Book said they would. "Sure lucky, wasn't it Rachel, how these 41 authors got it right." She fired back (I had used the painting demands a painter analogy) that if this were true, which she said it wasn't, "who then made God?" "Nobody did," I told her; "He's eternal." With that she stormed off and looked back at me in absolute contempt. What I failed to share with her (she was really itching to depart) was that the odds of 68 prophecies coming to pass by chance are 1 out of 10, to the 148th power.

I waved, wished her a nice weekend and told her to keep smiling (Rachel never looks happy when I see her.)
