I never heard of Mister Hovind until this thread.
Before I was saved, I was hard libertarian right, my saying was that "tax was theft".
When I got saved, and read thru the Bible, once, twice, put myself under the mentorship of a God-fearing, Spirit-filled pastor, my attitude about taxes and the government and authorities changed dramatically, as well as supporting the Church, whether that be the local expression of the Church, the local assembly one attends in a building, or supporting missionaries and ministries that preach the Gospel with my resource and provision.
I was also taught by Scripture, by the Holy Spirit, by elders, that we obey the laws, that we be above reproach, be in submission to authority. In essence, what I'm trying to say, trying to ask, that we dont assume the mantle of tax protestor, or that we don't sell weapons that have been jimmy rigged to fire automatic (David Koresh comes to mind) We lead peaceful righteous lives, isnt that what we are called to do?
I ask you Paul, because correct me if I'm wrong, arent you a pastor, or at the very least an elder? If so, would your mentoring over me, be to give me such advice?
and Krispy Steve, I assume you are one of the elders, if not the nominal leader of a home church? in NC, right? If I was part of your assembly, and you are the elder, do you know what I would do, every meeting? I would bring a King James Bible into that meeting, even though I personally study out of an NIV study Bible, because I would be placing myself under submission to your leadership, and would not want to cause dissent within the local Body, or to defy your leadership.
Isnt that what we are called to do?
Isnt that wisdom and hierachy given from God?
to be in submission to authorities both within the Church and the governing authorities in the land?
Heres where I come to my dilema: what if the governing authorities say that it's legal to "own", to keep as property, another human being?
or, what if the governing authorities tell you to slaughter innocent non-combatants because they are Jewish?
what then?
here's the answer, in my humble opinion:
taxes involve money.
people cannot be "property"
genocide is murder.
Maybe Hovind's got a Romans 8:28 situation facing him, God willing there's inmates in jail that will now hear the Gospel from a broken man, who knows?
God does.
Thank you brothers, and may God bless you both, neil
