i was watching a documentary on "Christianity In America" last night ... It was one of those done by an unbeliever, tho with a slightly less bias toward saints being cuckoo than most ... i think we Christians can get involved in some strange ways of outreach to the unsaved, but for the most part it came thru their concern for those on the road to hell ... i also found it interesting that it seems saved folk in the mid-west are a lot more forward, and unafraid to live and share Christ with others, than here in the north-east ...
Anyhow there was a preacher talking about American spiritual, moral and ethical decline, when he said, "My God, just look at us, we've went from "True Grit" (1968) to "Brokeback Mountain" (2006) ... That instantly made me think of this thread ...
i was born in 1950, and yep back then we had our spiritual, moral and ethical problems, but not like we have now ... Things have gotten worse, much worse, and it amazes me as an oldster that other oldsters first of all don't see our part toward it, and we can't see why today's youngsters don't see things as bad as some of us now do (i say some because there are also a lot of "old fools" out there) ... It was the same with my parents, born in the early 20's, they thought my generation (60's) were hellified (and we were), but they didn't see their generations part in leading down to ours ... Seems the natural inclination of man, even saved man, is to slide down the banister of laxity ... That's why the need for vigorous and continuous REPENTANCE PREACHING is so neccessary: STAY OF THE BANISTER! ... That's why REVIVAL, and the seeking of it is so important ...
i was in a really impassioned conversation with a group of "under 30" co-workers last week, and they were really giving it to this ole guy because of what they call my negative view of America/the world ... They told me it was tainted because of my Christianity and age ... The turning point came when a (non-Christian) 40 something co-worker entered the conversation and said that from his view America/the world had gotten worse too ... Then it hit me! ... You don't see decline, as decline, when you're a participant of the decline - you've got to be outside of it to see ... Aging has a way of turning us into spectators ...
i don't think it's until you begin hitting your 40's that you really begin to see that somethings rotten ... All children are born into a certain segment of time, and whatever's going on within that time, when you're young, impressionable, and a part of it, seems normal, and exactly how things should be ... By the time our teens are upon us the thrust is to be a part of whatever is concidered hip at the time, to blazes with past mores and values, and negative consequences aren't even real ... It happens in every generation ...The only time one can begin to see their generations part in societal declension is when age and time begins to separate us from what continues to happen, when we're no longer young in body and hip in mind, and if one has been taught anything of scripture and God in ones youth, once deception is broken the evident decline screams at you, and your part in it sends you into gut wrenching repentance before our Lord ... At least that was my experience ...
i told the youngsters i pray they remember our conversation if they reach their 40's, and especially if they have children, and see if the world doesn't reflect to have gotten worse (unless we experience Revival) ... But in the meanwhile looking back, i can see why they don't see it now ... What's happening in term of the homosexual agenda in America, most under 30 don't see as a major societal problem, it's reacted to as needed tolerance, and a problem to only oldsters and/or evangelical Christians ...
It's also interesting to note that Ted Haggard had the final say in this documentary, speaking on the evils of homosexuality and their radical agenda to destroy America spiritually/morally ...The documentary closed in script with what we all know happened to bro Haggard ... i've had to deal with this as a weapon formed against my witnessing to the young folk on my job, that's why it's so important to keep in check our own conduct ... Of course this weapon in the long run can't prosper, but i can tell you in the short run the devil certainly uses it to tear at any Christian witness against such sin, and such "hypocrisy" becomes even more reason for societal dismissal of Christan warnings on any subject ...
If it were not for my (i believe Holy Ghost powered faith) that God will not have His Church remain in our seeming ineptness/powerlessness in the face of the evil overtaking America, i'd stop confessing Christ name to another unsaved soul, stop expressing our need for dire REPENTANCE and REVIVAL to another blithe and oblivious saint/preacher, and stop petitioning God in intercession for the Church in America and our government and nation ...
He says, "Call unto Me, and I will answer thee" ... He says, "I'll reward you if you painstakingly seek" ... Sometimes some of us may feel straight up ridiculous in the intensity of this type faith, and often times would just like to be able to walk away from it altogether and not bug another saint about it ever again ... Some of us may have ... i tried it once and it didn't work, and so here i am now more intense in the faith that He's about to turn us around than ever before ...
It may look pretty bad for us here in the US, even to the point of a Moscow Mayor having more spiritual eyesight and vocal fortitude than many of our own claiming salvation politicians, but Christ is still sitting on His throne at the right of His Father, with all power in His hands, and He's promised that He'll never leave us nor forsake us ... We may have become deaf, dumb and blind to our spiritual condition and solution, and yes He's been longsuffering to our laxity, but He loves us, and has promised that as many as He loves He rebukes and chastens, and i believe soon the rest of the world will be commenting on the ressurgence of "first-love", "first-works" REVIVED Christianity in America!
Blessings in Christ Jesus! ... :-D ---
