Sunday School level Theology class

I
InTheLight Jan 31, 2007

Dr. Wayne Grudem has been teaching a Sunday morning class at Scottsdale Bible Church called Christian Essentials. They have made the teachings available on the web HERE.

This isn't for egg-heads, it's Theology on a Sunday School level for developing an essential Christian worldview. An excellent resource.

In Christ,

I think I noticed a quote from him in either Ron B's or Robert W's signature.

Can someone give me a link or give me a brief overview of his theology? Calvinist? Arminian? ... ect.

EDIT: You can ignore this if you want. I won't be lazy. I will just look at some of it myself. :-P

This is a great opportunity to encourage people to listen to Zac Poonen's Basic Christian Teachings. This is a deceptive name, because these teachings although you could say they are 'easy to digest' are incredibly powerful!

I was working a temp job for about a month and a half and had the chance to listen to all 72 15-minute messages, and I have to say, things that I thought were abstract concepts became alive and new to me in such an incredible way!

These are perfect for new believers! They may even be better for those struggleing with doubt and depression, and for those on a good footing they can be dynamite into a more victorious life!

Thanks. I seen it at a book store awhile back and thought about buying it. I may put it on my "list" to buy and read some day.

Wayne Grudem is not a heavy duty 'Systematic Theology' of the likes of Berkhoff or Hodge but he covers the ground and is very 'accessible' for those starting the pilgrimage.

If you like lots of bones in your food, the older classical theologians will oblige. Augustus Strong is interesting to read too as he quotes his opponents very fully and you can make your own mind up more easily. You will need young eyes to read it, some parts are quite small print.

Hasnt he released some new books , Wayne Grudem in the christian bookshop. Bible Doctrine I think was rereleased in Christian Bookshops in the Uk!! It is not normally in Christian Bookshops that our supported by STL and it was unusual to see a book by him.
I originally thought it said books for Sunday School Classes, Nine or ten year olds would have a problem reading his book.

Yes, I agree with Ian. Poonen's "basic" teachings actually go pretty deep in the concepts he addresses. It's quite amazing how much meat he is able to serve up in under 15 minutes! Also, his style of teaching is straight-forward and epigrammatic. I don't think these are only for babes in Christ - though they should certainly build with the material Zac provides. I think all levels can glean here.

You have come across one of the many examples of George Bernard Shaw's quote about the USA and UK "two people divided by a common language."

Their (USA) Children's Church is your (UK) Sunday School. Their (USA) Sunday School does not translate well into UK English; it is an adult education class for Christians run at church before or after the worship service.

So USA Sunday School material is aimed at adults, not 9 or 10 year olds!

Mike :-)
