Prayer Request

My Grandfather, 81, had a heart attack last Friday. He also has Congestive Heart Failure, so his heart is not that strong to begin with. On Monday, the results of several tests showed that surgery was out of the question. However, yesterday they ran a few more and decided it would be better to attempt surgery because they don't know how long he would survive without it. They will attempt to replace some arteries and a valve, scheduled for 6am tomorrow and lasting five hours. I am 200 miles away so it's kind of hard to gather precise and accurate information from other family members, but with my decent medical background, I assume there is substantial risk in this procedure considering his circumstances.

While I cannot know the condition of his soul and where he stands with the Lord, the fruit (or lack thereof) suggests that he is not saved. Like 90% of Americans from that generation, going to church every Sunday of his life is inherent in what he does, but not an outflow of who he is and for Whom he lives. Please pray first of all for his salvation, and second of all for the healing of his physical heart, that he may live the rest of his days on earth glorifying our Lord and God.

Update:

Surgery went as well as the doctors could have hoped and appeared to be doing pretty well. However, this morning his kidneys shut down and he is completely unresponsive. The doctors aren't saying what happened and he was scheduled for a CT scan at 11:45am. I'm waiting to hear more. Until then, please continue to pray. Thank you all for your love and prayers.

I thank my God for all of you and your prayers. LittleGift, I love what you said:

Doctors have said my grandfather has a bad infection and is "very sick." With his kidneys not functioning, his body cannot rid itself of bodily fluids or the sedatives he's on, so there is not a whole lot they can do (of course they are only human...the Great Physician is the only one that can really do anything!). Right now they are hoping his kidneys improve and that he doesn't contract pneumania, which is a high risk with him being immunocompromised and having feeding tubes. The doctors said he will surely die if pneumonia infects him. So right now, he is still hanging on to life, but it's quite grave.

Once again, I thank you all for your prayers. You are all such a blessing.

Update: My grandfather is still hanging on. Since the last update, I have been to see him, but he was still unresponsive at the time. With the drugs he's on and a couple of infections, he has slipped in and out of consiousness a few times in the last couple of weeks. Each time, they do CT scans to make sure he's not having strokes. So far, the doctors don't think he has any permanent brain damage. He is currently awake and quite alert, able to answer questions by shaking his head, and can squeeze hands and move his eyes around. His heart and lungs are supposedly very strong at this point. He has been transferred to another hospital in hopes of beginning therapy very soon to regain muscle strength he has lost being bedridden for 4 weeks. If things go well, he will be in therapy for a couple of months at least. Please continue to pray for his salvation and health. Thank you all.

My grandfather died this morning at 9:30. Thank you for your prayers and please pray for my family in this time of mourning.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know that God will comfort your family.

From the earlier posts, I gather that you are uncertain whether your Grandfather had gotten straight with God.

Be encouraged.

When my mother was in her final night before dying of brain cancer, my Sister-in-law, who was not a Christian at the time, had a vision of my Mom arguing with Jesus that she was not worthy of heaven, even though Jesus said she was. And no one knew that my Mom was dying that night.

It made my Sister-in-law a Christian, and I now know that my Mom was, at least in God's eyes.
