Broke her heart all in pieces

(Thomas Brooks, "A Cabinet of Choice Jewels" 1669)

The more a man apprehends of the love of God, and of the
love of Christ--the more that person will grieve and mourn
that he has offended, provoked, and grieved such a Father,
and such a Son. The more clear and certain evidences a man
has of the love and favor of God to his soul, the more that
man will grieve and mourn for sinning against such a God.

There is nothing which thaws and melts the heart, which
softens and breaks the heart--like the warm beams of divine
love--as you may see in the case of Mary Magdalene. She
loved much, and she wept much--for much was forgiven her.
A sight of the free grace and love of Christ towards her, in an
act of forgiveness, broke her heart all in pieces. A man
cannot stand under the shinings of divine love with a frozen
heart, nor with dry eyes. The more a man sees of the love
of Christ, and the more a man tastes and enjoys of the love
of Christ--the more that man will grieve and mourn for all
the dishonors that he has done to Christ.

"Then she knelt behind Him at his feet, weeping. Her tears
fell on His feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then
she kept kissing His feet and putting perfume on them."
Luke 7:38

May it be so within this present age! I know there are those whose hearts burn within them, who desire to walk in a way worthy of this great calling, but here in America we can have whatever words we want spill out of our mouth and it is encouraged, our pride lifts itself up and we say all too often, "Our lips are our own".

Weather in word or in deed, may I always be willing to be broken by that look of love and devotion from the blessed Savior!

That is how I came to the Lord many years ago, I was deep in sin, I was in a pit that I could not extract myself from and in desperation I cried out to the God I knew as a child, "Oh, God! Help me! I am the most foolish person there is! What can I do, now that I have pushed you away so many times?" and the Lord in His graciousness open a picture in my heart of the Lord Jesus on the cross and He looked at me, and I knew that He had died for me, for my sin. And it broke my heart. But until one day, I stayed in that broken condition for several months; one day though the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart, via a word on the radio, which said, "You are a chosen vessel of mine...." and at that moment, with the eyes of God on my heart, I realized that even though I had so wandered away in selfishness and pride He still loved me, and called me, and had a place for me in His heart, in His kingdom and in His will, that HE CHOSE ME.....the very thought of it... how wonderous that God would choose a fool....may He be glorified!!!!!!!

And through it all, every correction, every tear, every heart crushing sorrow He has constantly brought me to that place of humility and washing, of grace and mercy.

Praise His Holy Name!!!!

"Depth of mercy! Can there be mercy still reserved for me? Can my god His wrath forbear- Me the chief of sinners, spare?

I have long withstood His grace, Long provoked him to his face, would no hearken to His calls, grieved Him by a thousand falls.

Now incline me to repent, Let me now my sins lament; Now my foul revolt deplore, weep, believe, and sin no more.

There for me my Savior stands, holding forth His wounded hands; God is love! I know, I feel, Jesus weeps and loves me still." - Charles Wesley
