question about website names

I hope I am not out of line in asking this here, but it does have to do with SI and Christianity.

I’m thinking about building a website. I had one before, but I just didn’t have the time.

Anyway, my question to you is this.

Would you use a name that was already being used as a dot com? Dot net is available.

The .com site is about quilting or something.

My site would have links to Sermonindex.

I was just wondering…would this ever cause a problem?

Is it just…not cool or something?

I really like the name, and it has lots of meaning to me on many levels.

What say you guys…and gals?

What's the domain name, if I may ask?

It's not a big deal. Long as you're not using this for commercial purposes, you shouldn't really worry about it.

Jordan

I’m keeping it a secret from my family, and I think one of them may visit this site at times.

So…is it wrong to use a name for a .net site that is already in use as a .com?

I just told you, no!
(If the .com website wanted to protect their domain name in any way, they'd register .net and .org if they cared. They obviously didn't, so they probably don't care.. it's not "wrong" by any means. Go ahead and register it!)

Hi TJ, I'm on the same opinion. If they wanted to register .net they would done that, obviously it's not "big" or known site.
For example, brother Greg has already reserved .com and .org of sermonindex and typing them will lead you here.

www.sermonindex.com
www.sermonindex.org
