Nicknames?

sermonindex Mar 2, 2007

Hi everybody

I was just wondering about the stories behind some of your nicknames. John173 said his was a reference to John 17:3.

Mine is the meaning of my name; "Jeannette" = "little gift of God". On another forum I chose the nickname "Little Doris" (Doris is from the Greek for "gift"), but people started addressing me as "Doris" which sounds very old fashioned!

When working in a nursing home several years ago there were four old ladies called Doris! Two of the Doris's shared a room, and after they were separated Doris R kept asking "Where's Doris?" Which gave the impression she was confused if one didn't know she was looking for her former room mate, Doris M!

This should be an interesting thread. :-)

I chose 'Roniya' because it is the Hebrew meaning of my name. Translated it is 'Joy of the Lord'.

jimdied2sin-

When I was a lukewarm / false convert I used the grace of God as a license to sin. God will just forgive me for it when I repent later...

My nickname is to honor the power of Christ to cleanse us from sin and not just to forgive us (cheap grace).

Interesting that you should ask that. When I created my own log-on this morning, my first thought was to use "Jn173s wife". Doug didn't care for that much and suggested I try something else. I thought for awhile and realized I'm just not clever enough to come up with a nickname that suits and ended up using my initials. I tried CJ first, but it was already being used. I'm already regretting that I set it up in "all caps", as it makes logging on more time consuming. Ah well, it's only three silly letters! :-)

ummm ...

One meaning of my name that I've come across is "womanly love"...

It didn't seem appropriate!! :-)

Goldminer Mar 2, 2007

My name goldminer came from two sources, one I have had a love of reading christian literature all my 30+ years of being saved. I am constantly looking for the vein of gold deep in the heart of each writer, always looking for nuggets. Also I spent most of my life in Alaska and have panned for gold a number of times in the natural.

Mine is in reference to the beagles that God has blessed me with and have had the great privelege of adopting and working with through my volunteer rescue work. I believe all God's creatures are important to Him, as evidenced by Luke 12:6,7:

"Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows."

Great topic, Jeanette :-)

I got my nickname a few years ago from my brother's girlfriend (at the time). I remember on AIM, or something like that, she out of no where called me "JORDANAMO!!!" She used that nickname a lot more thereafter, and thus, it stuck!

Someone once called me Preacher Parsley and that wouldn't fit as a name so I shortened it.

Home Free is my favorite song by Legacy Five and it speaks about the troubles we have down here, but then we'll be home free with Jesus in Heaven. Can't wait for that day!

89 is the year I was born in.

I also originally used "Doris" because its the name of one Genus of a creature called a sea slug, which I find amusing. One species of Doris is bright yellow with spots, a ring of feathery gills on its back and two little horns - unlike me I hasten to add :-P

Sea slugs are fascinating vcreatures, and usually very colourful compared with garden slugs. One (not a Doris) is called the Spanish Dancer because it has red and white swirly "skirts" and actually does twirl around as if its dancing.

Oops, this isn't the place for a Biology lecture

Interesting..
Wonser is my last name..

And a friend of mine was trying to figure out how to spell it, 'cause she had only ever heard it--never seen it spelled before. She started off, "W... uh..."
And got stuck. So I continued for her with the "o".. and she said, "W-o-n... like in wonton?!" So she has called me Wonton ever since. Definitely one of my more interesting nicknames.

So I decided to use it as my name here on SI.

Somehow LittleGift with the treasures God brings forth through you I will have an impossible time thinking of you as a slug, sea or any other kind. More like a princess reflecting the King.

Ahhh... the wait is over... here I am!

I wish I could say it was something spiritual ... like I was studying Leviticus and was impressed with the burnt sacrifices. But alas... it was nothing spiritual at all... lol.

I was on a hunting / camping trip with a couple of my cousins and some friends one time. I think there were 7 or 8 of us. We were at camp one evening, and I was doing some meat over the camp fire, and it got burnt pretty bad cuz I got distracted and didn't keep the spit turning like it should have been.

Everyone partook of the meat, but someone made the comment, "Mmmm mmmm!! He sure makes some good crispy critters!"

The name has stuck ever since. People in my "un-cyber" life call me Krispy too... not everyone, but those who know me real well.

Carlos Santana is my idol so I chose Santana.

That was a joke! My last name is Santana.

My name is Inigo Montoya...

Actually, this shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

Ahhh... the wait is over

I thought for sure it was in reference to being on fire for God; a burnt but not consumed kinda thing.

I’m getting used to being wrong. The older I get the dumber I….oh well.
