I suppose my suggestion will not receive much serious attention, but I should like to suggest that we Bible-believing Christians announce a moratorium on religious activity and set our house in order preparatory to the coming of an afflatus from above. So carnal is the body of Christians which composes the conservative wing of the Church, so shockingly irreverent are our public services in some quarters, so degraded are our religious tastes in still others, that the need for power could scarcely have been greater at any time in history. I believe we should profit immensely were we to declare a period of silence and self-examination during which each one of us searched his own heart and sought to meet every condition for a real baptism of power from on high.

"Lord, I do pray that You would move in the hearts of leaders in churches everywhere to prompt this time of silence and self- examination. So often activity feeds on itself and it takes a conscious effort to step off the treadmill to re-evaluate. Stimulate our hearts, and quiet us today to hear from You. Amen."

Good words from Tozer.

Unfortunately, silence and quietness is the last thing you'll find in a church... it's all about making noise. It would do each of us good though if we were quiet more often before the Lord.

Unfortunately, silence and quietness is the last thing you'll find in a church...

God's problem with the Church is "dead fundementalism." We know the phrases we know the terms.

We need to hear from God that is so true brother, Oh how silence is needed in the churches from all these programs and methods of men prevalent in these days.

It is not only churches that need silence, it is the individual. It does not matter where the individual is, it seems like people need noise .....for what? To drown out the voice of the Spirit? We have become a people that need noise wherever we go.... LORD, help us to learn to appreciate silence so we can hear you speak. Amen.

I agree, ginnyrose! Many are scared of silence, it seems.

I love silence! I really do! I hardly ever have the radio on and I don't watch t.v. When people come over to my house, they are amaze how silent my house is, and I have 3 kids! I know it is God's Spirit that gives my house a sense of peace too. I love to meditate all the time with the Lord, and in order to do that there needs to be silence.

People think its impossible to always have pure thoughts. Its not! My mind is almost always meditating on Him and His ways. No bongage in the mind, thank God to Jesus Christ, I have victory!

We have become a people that need noise wherever we go.... LORD, help us to learn to appreciate silence so we can hear you speak

some seek miracles and extraordinary experiences and still we can wonder why is God not moving in their midst,are they missing the still small voice that Elijah heard at the cave, some seek to be theologically "correct" to the point that their theology lieves no room for the ourpourings of the Holy Spirit, no wonder why we have grieved him.....

Amen, Brother!

I yearn so much to be able to recognize this still small voice all the time. So many times it seems I do not recognize it until after the fact, after I ignored it and ended up doing something stupid. As a result, I try to pray daily, "LORD, help me to recognize your voice when you speak..and please speak loud so I can hear it and recognize it." So I am learning....

No matter how old we get, there is still room for growth. My preacher-grandfather used to echo these sentiments as well...and I thought he was the most wonderful person that walked on this planet. He even said the devil will tempt you harder the older you get! How much more we need to hear that still small voice...

Amen brother God have mercy with us, God mercy me and make me nobody that Jesus may be SOMEBODY

May God give us holy desires and increase our dissatisfaction with the shallowness of spiritual experiences. I'm sick and tired of backslidings, oh that the fires that kindled my heart aflame for God will burn deep again...

May he give us a holy silence that will ignore all the noise of the devils and wait in expectation of the heavenly wind, oh for a holy bold faith that will pray till mercies of the Lord come down like showers of blessing upon the dry lands of our heart that we may show the praises of his glory
