Help. Pride. How to get rid of it.

Pride is an elevation of self over God. I spoke about humility yesterday in Sunday School. Humility is thinking rightly (not too highly or too lowly) about yourself...seeing yourself through God's eyes.

What helps me to fight against pride is to remember that I have not acquired anything through my own power. All that I have is a gift from God and I am accountable for how I use all of it.

There is so much more to be said on this topic, I pray that through the wisdom on this site God speaks to you. The first step though is to admit your pride and confess it is a problem, which it seems you are doing.

thank you. Altho, I think thinking I'm better than others is pride too (not only thinking myself higher than God).

Here is a poem that the Holy Spirit gave me while praying about my own pride.

How can I be proud when a King had to die so that I could live

He was shamed and forsaken, nailed to a tree and I still didn't notice Him calling to me

I only had rags, but He gave me a gown
My mind was sick, but now I'm placed with a crown

How can I be proud... it was nothing I've done
He has shown me the truth, now I've counted all as dung

Everything I have He provided to me
It was too high a price for me to pay the fee

So this life is not mine, it no longer belongs to me
I was born into slavery, but Christ set me free!!

How can I be proud
What I have I did not earn
So take all the dross and cause it to burn

So I can shine bright, Your Radient Light
And Show Your glory, for it is now night

Oh come Lord Jesus, hear my heart's cry
And keep me til the day that I die.

I would guess that as long as one still lives he/she will have to contend with it in one form or another.

One of the ways you can deal with it is to recognize it so you can work to kill that old man, crucify him! One of the ways you can detect it in yourself is that pride is primarily concerned with "I", "ME". What I think is so very important. You want to be noticed. Does submission to authority come easy? Is it important that I am always right? (It is important that when we speak the Word of God it is 100% Biblical which means real submisson on my part to the authority of God's word.)

Brother, I still did not answer your question: what if you were to ask the LORD to reveal this info to you? If you mean it, he will take you up on it!

Pride is such a deceitful sin. Let's say the Lord has asked me to go on an extended fast. If I say no, then it's my pride that says I don't have to obey Jesus. So then I have to go to the woodshed and subsequently I finally do what the Lord asks. The inner pride will rise up in judgment against those who didn't do what I did (i.e. a self-righteous spirit). The wickedness of the human heart can spring up even if we fully submit and obey what the Lord is speaking to our hearts. I don't know about you but that's rather terrifying to me.

There's also "wounded" pride, which is still pride but it makes us look like a victim of sorts. It's a false humility of sorts.

The depths of pride in the human heart run very deep but unfortunately we don't have the eyes to see this and it can only be discovered and subsequently broken in our lives through a deep work of repentance. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Only Jesus can remove this root of pride in our hearts. Thank God it's not done by "trying harder to get it right." It's a work of the blood of Jesus simply appropriated by faith.

pride comes from comparing ourselves to others. humility comes from comparing ourselves to God:)

I love this poem. Thank you for sharing it. When we focus on what we have been given and how undeserving we are our pride is swallowed up in humility. May we never forget...

Keep reading the full counsel of God, do what He shows you. Live one day at a time obeying His voice...

And He will take care of the rest...according to His wisdom...

His burden is light if you search for Him daily.
