Are we greater than Jesus?

sermonindex Mar 13, 2007

Luke 22:27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.

What do you think beloved??

In the world's eyes the one who is eating is greater than the one who is serving. But in God's eyes the one who is serving is greater than the one who is eating.

It is God's way of showing human wisdom to be foolish.

Mark 9:34-38

34But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. 35And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, "If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all." 36And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, 37"Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me."

I think Jesus is Lord of all.

Luk 22:26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

See... you cant take a verse completely out of context like that and try and make sense of it. Jesus was setting an example for us, that we should serve one another. Through serving we learn to love one another. Hard to hate someone while you are willingly serving them with no expectation of anything in return.

We are not greater than Jesus. The entire Bible prooves that. Jesus was, in this passage, bolstering His point that the greatest commandment is that we love God with all of our heart, soul and might... and the second is that we love our neighbor as we love ourselves.

We're not greater than Jesus! Jesus' greatness was found in his sheer humility and obedience to God-- something we will never attain to only through his blood. But we cannot be greater than him, I wouldn't even go so far as to say we could be on his "level"-- we will always be smaller than him. We can only be on his "level" in certain spiritual senses. But in reality, we are smaller than him.
