They lied!

sermonindex Mar 14, 2007

I'd like to share a true story, because I believe it has parallels for many of us, and it may help to adjust our collective perspective on the difficulties we find in our own minds about doctrine which we have never questioned, and that in the minds of others whose doctrine they have never questioned..... until hitting these discussion forums.

Some of us have had our own steep learning curve, over what we received as truth, which turned out not to be so, in the light of understanding scripture.

Please let us remember also, that God allows us to be shaken, that that which cannot be shaken, may remain.

A girl I met many years ago now, had come to the UK to learn English. Invited to church by a local, she soon was born again and rejoicing in her salvation.

Sometime after this, the church in which she had been brought up, somehow got a hold of this fact, and began to send a representative to challenge her allegiance to Jesus Christ. This woman would be waiting for her when she came home from work, and would call at other unpredictable times, to invite, cajole and generally put pressure on her to return.

When she shared this situation with me, I was unsure enough of my standing with God to be quite amazed at her strength of mind to resist - despite being such a new Christian.

I asked if she was never tempted to give up what she now believed, and go back - even just for the sake of peace from this harrassment - back to the kind of church which had not cared when as a teenager she had joined an atheist naturist commune?

She looked :-o at the question, and replied confidently....

'But they lied.'

Feels good to hear stories like that.

Great post Linn.

What a great story. It does my heart good.

These lies, that are so cleverly disguised, are easily recognized by those that cleave to the rock.

Even in her spiritual infancy she was able distinguish the true from the false.

A babe standing on The Rock is not easily moved.

The Rock…what a great foundation.

What a story. Wow.

'But they lied.'

This could be one of the most shocking things one must ever face. This could be referring to well-meaning relatives, family, friends, church, - those whom one invested their lives in. It could be referring to yourself.

There is a place for patience and mercy when dealing with loved ones who are not yet able to admit this horrifying fact - that they've been lied to (though, most likely inadvertently).

That's why we need to leave room for God to work in this area - of exposing deception, because if we do it outside of God's timing, we only cause the deceived ones to go on the defence. Well, at least, that's what I've experienced rather often.

I am learning that it is always safe to teach truth - and the lies will be exposed for what they are.
And when God's truth touches a heart, there is no doubt.

How wonderful!

It proves Jesus true to His word, "None shall pluck them from my hand." He who has saving power also has keeping power.

I love it.
