Tozer quote???

B
BradW Mar 20, 2007

I'm having a spell of forgetfulness this morning...

Does anyone know who said something like this?
I'm thinking it was A.W. Tozer

...I don't believe that 10% of the American church could show Biblical evidence of salvation...

Forgive me for slaughtering this quote.
I want to use it in an email to our young adult pastor.

Thanks,
Brad.

Leonard Ravenhill
"I doubt that more than two percent of professing Christians in the United States are truly born again."

I'm sure there are other similar quotes out there

Paul Washer has quoted Billy Graham as saying 'I wish that even five percent of the people who make decisions for Christ at my Crusades were genuinely saved.'

I can say it if you want to quote me. Sadly, enough I agree most who profess to be saved are not. Jesus deserves the credit though. He said that few would find the gate to life, while many will profess "Lord, Lord."

Paris Reidhead said it also. Its found in:

Hidden Things of God (I believe part 3, but may be part 2)
Cost of Discipleship (not sure which part, but it would be at least part 5)

In hidden things, he quotes both Tozer and a Baptist preacher as well. Shows that the view is not limited to CMA people.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

PreachParsley: I would love to quote you and many brethren on SI.

One last inquiry: what are "CMA people"?

CMA?

Christian Music Awards

Christian Management Association

Christian and Missionary Alliance

Christian Motorcycle Association

Christian Minister's Association

Christian Mission Aid

CMA in context of CJaKfOrEsT's comments.

Ambiguous... I don't know which one he was refering to either.

:-D

Christian and Missionary Alliance is what he was refering to. AW Tozer and Paris Reidhead were in the CMA.

The reference was to the Christian and Missionary Alliance, CMA. Tozer was the editor of their magazine and followed A B Simpson in that role.

Great minds... Josh!

I thought that was probably the one considering they have an AW Tozer Devotional available on the CMA website: http://www.cmalliance.org/

Yes...sorry about that. While I do realise that the Christian Motorcycle Association is quite concerned about the percentage of genuine converts, Krispy and Ron hit the nails on the head.

By the way, when Reidhead stated it, he said it was 1/10 of one percent.

It also occurred to me that I think Tozer mentioned this also in The Doctrine of the Remnant, where he references Elijah and the 5000 hidden prophets, in 1 Kings.
