The truth will 'make' or 'set' you free? -John 8:32

Please, please, please don't turn this into a 'King James Preference Post' but I want to know what the difference is in John 8:32 between the word 'set' and 'make'?

Which one do you prefer and why?

"...Then you will know the truth, and the truth will [b]set[/b] you free." - Most Versions

My point is because this is a very well known verse through out the world and I've only realized KJV says 'make'.

Neither the word 'make' or 'set' is actually in the Greek. It is the Future Active Indicative of [url=http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/words.pl?book=Jhn&chapter=8&verse=32&strongs=1659&page=]eleutheroO[/url] which really means 'to liberate'.

If you check out the verses where the word is used in the New Testament you will get a good feel for the word. Notice particularly [url=http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/versions.pl?book=Gal&chapter=5&verse=1&version=KJV#1]Gal 5:1[/url] where the noun and the verb ie liberty and liberate are both used in the same sentence to emphasise the 'liberty with which Christ has liberated us'.
