My Wife's Testimony

B
BENOTLEH Apr 1, 2007

My wife and I have lately felt impressed to do something for the Lord besides attending church.
Since i have lately got into the habit of leaving tracts everywhere i go, we thought about making our own to pass out. My wife felt moved to put her personal testimony on a tract. Please read it below and email us at IICor514@wmconnect.com and let us know what you think:

My name is Melody and this is my testimony. I considered myself “saved” because I said the “sinner’s prayer” and I even got baptized when I was 12. I considered myself a “good person” and just assumed I would go to heaven when I died. But I sinned a lot in my life--especially during my teen years, you know, right after I got saved and baptized. I disrespected my parents, lied, smoked, drank, did drug, and had premarital sex, just to name a few. I had no interest in God. But I still assumed I would go to heaven when I died because I was saved and baptized when I was 12 and I was a good person compared to most people my age. After my husband was born again in February 2006, and really started living his life for Christ, he would ask me to go to church with him; I always had and excuse, though. Whenever he would ask me if I were saved, I would get embarrassed and angry that he would ask me. So after about four months of excuses, I started going to church with him. Then one Saturday night in July 2006, we were talking and he asked me if I was saved. I felt my face turning red and I said “Yes” and he asked me to tell him about it. So I told him I said the “Sinner’s Prayer” and was baptized when I was 12. So when I laid down that night, I was a little upset. I thought “I shouldn’t be getting embarrassed or angry when he asks me if I’m saved.” Then I started thinking of all the obvious sins I had committed throughout my life. I started to realize just how much of a sinner I was. The next morning at church, a man stared talking about how we don’t fear God anymore, and I realized that I didn’t fear God at all. When the preacher made an altar call, I felt like I should have gone down to the altar. My heart was pounding harder than it had ever pounded. It was almost like I was being punched from the inside--that’s how hard it was pounding. I kept telling myself, “Melody, just go down to the altar. Go down to the altar and pray!” But I let my pride and fear of embarrassing myself win, and I didn’t go down to the altar. When church was over I felt terrible. It was like something was just weighing down on me, and I just wanted to cry. When I got home, I got my husband’s bible, went into the bathroom, got down on my knees in front of the toilet, and I just prayed and asked for forgiveness of all the sins I had committed. I realized how truly lost I was and how desperately I needed Jesus. As I prayed and cried over my husband’s bible, I asked God to let me read something that would help me. I just opened the bible with my eyes closed and put my finger on the page. When I opened my eyes, my finger was at Matthew 1:21, which says “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.” At that moment I gave my life to Christ. I cried out for Jesus to forgive me and save me. I repented of my sins and asked Jesus to come into my heart. I realized I was worthless and undeserving of all the blessings He had given me and I still am. I just sat in the floor crying and praying harder than I had ever cried or prayed before. I was born again that day--July 23, 2006--in front of the toilet on my bathroom floor! This is my testimony and every word of it is true. I pray that it has been a blessing to you. I know that everyone’s conversion is different because the Holy Ghost deals with people differently. I pray that if you haven’t given your life to Jesus that you will truly repent of your sins and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. He paid the price for your sins and “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

Honesty is ever enduring ... Something entirely appropriate about getting saved in front of a toilet! What a great testimony...

Publish it anyway and anywhere you can.

I know it sounds strange, but for some people, the bathroom is the only quiet place, alone place in the house, secure from invasion, and that is why your testimony is so believable, and therefore invaluable.

My prayers that you sow seed, water seed, and harvest souls.

In Christ,
