Aimee Semple McPherson...evangelist in the 20s and 30s...Wow...what a story.

She was an evangelist and media sensation in the 1920s and 1930s

I had never heard of her til today. I found a few thigs interesting in the story:

"...famous stage productions drew people who would never have thought to enter a church, and then presented them with her interpretation of the message of salvation. McPherson believed that the Gospel was to be presented at every opportunity, and used worldly means at her disposal to present it to as many people as possible. Her sermons, unlike other contemporaries, e.g. Billy Sunday, were not the usual fire-and-brimstone messages, but were based around a more friendly interpretation of the modern Christian texts."

Her ministry fell to scandal.

In the 20s and 30s. When did this watered down Gospel begin?

I've read some mix things about her.

What really made me question, and uneasy was the divorce.

that azusa street story tears my heart for so many different reasons... and i would submit to you of the many one of the thoughts i have had... had some been able to submit themselves in love and humility to one another, we might not have had to have the civil rights movement in the 60s, which also would mean, our inner cities would not be such an obvious strong hold of the enemy in this day and age. i just wonder, does anybody else see the connection? or better yet, does anybody care? :cry:

The 1890 thru to the 1920's was a golden era. It is very much like today, they had technology, we have advanced technology, they had media and glamour, we have advanced media and glamour. Radio was king, Television is king today. I find interesting this quote:

Isn't that what's going on in our churches today?? A watered down version of the gospel, a friendly, humanistic gospel?

Nothing is new under the sun. What makes our day so extreme is the development of the television and the internet, most of the developing populas has one and the media can grab your attention instantly, and carry it's message faster.

During this Golden Era, war was going on and Hitler was frightening Europe. We have the same today but from other nations like, North Korea, Iran, and Venezuela.
