We are Eagles you and I

This is poem that I wrote with my husband in mind during a time when we were feeling discouraged about the situation in our local church. It seemed that we had to shake off the dust and rise above it all. It really did help both our perspectives to change and greatly encouraged us.The analagy of the eagle among chickens is not original, I heard it in a sermon before. Nevertheless I pray it will also encourage others out there who feel this way......

We Are Eagles You and I

You and I are eagles. We were made to soar. Let the chickens scratch and peck and squabble over the highest roosting place in the chicken coop. Let us lift up our eyes to the horizon, for the horizon is only the beginning of where we are going. There is more, so much more. This place is too small for us. It’s time for us to break out. We were not made to be owned. Chicken feed can’t satisfy the hunger in our soul. We were made to catch our prey with dignity, not wait for it to be thrown in the dirt at our feet. Yes, we will have to leave our comfort zone and launch out into the unknown, but that’s what we long for, to truly live, to hear the sound of our beating hearts, to feel the wind swirling beneath our wings, to taste the fresh clean meat untouched by man. My heart is stirring. I hear my calling, “Come and fly. Soar where you can really see, above the distractions. Leave them all behind!” We are eagles you and I.
