Two Noah's?

My son (11) and I were talking about Bible names, that sometimes you don't know if they are male or female.

I said to him, 'There's a woman in the Bible called Noah'.

He looked at me shocked and said, 'What, where?'

So I showed him.

Numbers 26v33 Now Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters, and the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were, Mahlah, NOAH, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

So it was information for him, so he said, 'I'm going to tell my R.E teacher'.

So, I'm not being heretical by saying there are two Noah's.

It's just that, it was Brother Noah who built the ark, not sister.

You know, for a while now, we have been having posts that cause unnecessary debate, ill feeling and are unedifying.

Which was one reason why I posted this thread.

Also, because it happened!

I know it does not edify, but at least it does not cause unnecessary debate or ill feeling.

I don't think it hurts to be light hearted, if not humorous now and again.

Not as a lifestyle, for we are to be sober, but not to seem as though our opinion is so important that we have to have the last word, no matter what.

And when that is at the expense of bringing a brother or sister in Christ to get dejected or encounter an unnecessary fight with pride, we have to ask, is the last word worth it?

Not saying this to get at anyone, just want us to strive together in the things of God for God's glory and honour.

Whats interesting about that whole story of "Sister Noah" is that it was mentioned in connection with the inheritance that normally went to the Males in Israel. Now thats a good place for some exciting revalations into the heart of God even in the OT. There's alot there that can be gleened.

Doesn't it sound odd saying 'Sister Noah?' Yet, she is there in scripture.

One thing I look at concerning the daughters of Zelophehad is that, without any inheritance, they would have been homeless.

And being homeless, they would have to become beggars to live.

And who would marry a beggar?

Or, if one of them got married, the husband would have had to provide for the other 4 sisters until they all got married.

Or would he?

If not him, then who?

I don't know, just my mind works that way sometimes.

This just started out as a light-hearted look at Bible names.

I believe this issue about Noah and her sisters goes into the whole issue of adoption and how the blessing could eventually come through Mary, via Jesus the messiah. I studied this one out once but its been a few years ago and my ole' brain seems like it needs kick started now on the issue, need to dig and find my old notes.
