Isn't Jesus wonderful!

H
Here4Him May 8, 2007

Saints, it is great disccussing all kinds of doctrinal issues etc but here i am listening to the song 'Turn your eyes upon Jesus' and oh it just moves my heart. Isn't Jesus wonderful?!!

Oh to God that we never lose our love for Him, that we post more threads on SI about Him, that we grow in the love of Christ.

Why dont we just discuss how wonderful He is?

Lets have a thread about Jesus, lets talk about Him, and may it cause our hearts to be warmed with love for Him.

"Turn your eyes upon Jesus look into His wonderful face, and the things of the world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glorious grace"

Oh how great He is! i was so dry for a few days, and after this morning, it just seemed just a little drop of His mercy, and i am tearing up again....

Of course He is wonderful!

I don't think anyone will disagree with this.

Thanks for the thread.

God bless.

Yes i was dry too, but O how lovely it is to think on Jesus again, to be mindful of Him, yes how it fills the heart with love and the eyes with tears. There is no one like our Lord, there is no one like Jesus! "To you who believe He is precious".

Yes sister of course, but isn't it nice to remind ourselves, to just talk about Him? We talk about so many other things on here (good things), so can't we talk about our Saviour? state the obvious if you will.

Talk to me about Jesus, tell me what you love about Him... I need to think on Him, meditate on Him, i soon forget His loveliness to my shame

Praise Jesus for:

-the fact that He uses a sinful mess like me to encourage others.
-the mere fact that WE have the privelege and blessing to serve Him daily, to come into His presence.
-His saving blood poured out for me, that I can boldly approach God's eternal throne because of what HE did.
-being able to praise Him!

Tis mystery all, the Immortal dies,
who can explore His strange design?
In vain the first-born seraph tries
to sound the depths of love divine.
Tis mercy all, let earth adore,
let angel minds enquire no more.

No condemnation now I dread,
Jesus and all in Him is mine.
Alive in Him, my living Head,
and clothed in righteousness divine.
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
and claim the crown through Christ my own!

He is good.

One of my favourite hymns seems to fit here:

With harps and with vials, there stand a great throng
In the presence of Jesus, and sing this new song:

Refrain
Unto Him Who hath loved us and washed us from sin,
Unto Him be the glory forever, Amen.

All these once were sinners, defiled in His sight,
Now arrayed in pure garments in praise they unite:

Refrain

He maketh the rebel a priest and a king,
He hath bought us and taught us this new song to sing:

Refrain

How helpless and hopeless we sinners had been,
If He never had loved us till cleansed from our sin:

Refrain

Aloud in His praises our voices shall ring,
So that others believing, this new song shall sing:

Refrain

Heaven's anthem can start here and now, and we'll be still singing it when we get there!!!

I am not as eloquent or knowledgeable as most who post here, so I usually just come here and read. But when I saw this topic, I couldn't help myself....

I was thinking just last week about this song
"Turn your eyes upon Jesus look into His wonderful face, and the things of the world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glorious grace" And I was thinking, why should it be strange that worldly things grow dim? Shouldn't that be normal? And so my prayer has been that nothing would every outshine Him in my affections. Because He is wonderful. And just the thought that in all His kingly glory, He still smiles upon me is quite overwhelming.

Jesus is the Lover of my soul!

---
Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide; O receive my soul at last.

Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is stayed, all my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head with the shadow of Thy wing.

Wilt Thou not regard my call? Wilt Thou not accept my prayer?
Lo! I sink, I faint, I fall—Lo! on Thee I cast my care;
Reach me out Thy gracious hand! While I of Thy strength receive,
Hoping against hope I stand, dying, and behold, I live.

Thou, O Christ, art all I want, more than all in Thee I find;
Raise the fallen, cheer the faint, heal the sick, and lead the blind.
Just and holy is Thy Name, I am all unrighteousness;
False and full of sin I am; Thou art full of truth and grace.

Plenteous grace with Thee is found, grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound; make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art, freely let me take of Thee;
Spring Thou up within my heart; rise to all eternity.

-Charles Wesley

Amen brother!

'Littlegift', i too love that hymn, especially the chorus:

Unto Him Who hath loved us and washed us from sin, unto Him be the glory forever Amen
.

They sing that especially well in Wales, i have sang that a few times at the Aber conference or in Geoff Thomas' church.

Dani, i am so glad you posted this time, you said:

why should it be strange that worldly things grow dim? Shouldn't that be normal? And so my prayer has been that nothing would every outshine Him in my affections. Because He is wonderful.

You are so right, i have made a habit in my life of letting over things steal my affections, how wicked this is, how insulting to Christ, how it robs God. I think if we can turn away from other rival affections and worldly amusments whatever it might be, we will be freed to value and appreciate the priceless treasure that is the Person of Christ. Oh lets encourage each other to do this- may Jesus always have our hearts, passions, affections, mind and desires.

And sister Ronyia, thank you, that is truly a wonderful soul refreshing hymn, i love it!

Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on Thee;Leave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me. All my trust on Thee is stayed, all my help from Thee I bring; Cover my defenseless head with the shadow of Thy wing.

Is there any better way to express the cry of our hearts or they essence of true saving faith in Jesus?

And i love verse 4, especially the first line.

Thou, O Christ, art all I want, more than all in Thee I find;

Oh that this might constantly be my experience. To enjoy and treasure the riches of Christ, to count all else rubbish but to know Him.

Please keep them coming! Lets keep talking about our Jesus. What we love about Him, what He has done for us, our wonderful He is, and how precious!

Isn't it a small world! I used to go to Geoff Thomas's church sometimes, when a student in Aberystwyth! (late 1960's, and again in the late 1970's)

I found Geoff T a bit too "Reformed Calvinist" to cope with except in small doses, and his constant jigging about while preaching was distracting, but he was a good chap.

Do you know if he's still around?

That's amazing!

You're not Welsh are you? How did you cope in such a hotbed of nationalism as Aber? A theology student once said he was sorry for me because I can't speak Welsh! (Coming from South East Wales, the anglicised industrial valleys, I never had a chance to learn)

Blessings

Thanks Greg, i will listen to those sermons.

Jeannette, it was me who talked about Geoff Thomas. He is still there at the same church,still preaching in those wonderful eloquent tones! I cant say i would agree with him on everything, but i have enjoyed hearing him preach each year i have gone to the aber conference, cos He does preach Christ, and lifts up Christ. I remember one year i was listening to him preach on one of the old welsh chapels, he preached on Christ, and it was so wonderful, it brought tears to my eyes. Then at the end we stood to sing the last hymn, and i will never forget it, it was a touch of heaven to my soul. We sang:

Thou art the everlasting Word,
The Father’s only Son;
God manifestly seen and heard,
And Heav’n’s belovèd one:

Refrain

Worthy, O Lamb of God, art Thou
That every knee to Thee should bow.

In Thee most perfectly expressed
The Father’s glories shine;
Of the full deity possessed,
Eternally divine:

Refrain

True image of the Infinite,
Whose essence is concealed;
Brightness of uncreated light;
The heart of God revealed:

Refrain

But the high mysteries of Thy Name
An angel’s grasp transcend;
The Father only—glorious claim!—
The Son can comprehend:

Refrain

Throughout the universe of bliss,
The center Thou, and sun;
Th’eternal theme of praise of this,
To Heav’n’s belovèd one:

Refrain

Maybe by now you've discovered they are songs? ;-)

Definitely listen to 'Wonderful Grace of Jesus'! I simply love it. (It's a fun setting to learn to sing.)

Here are the words as in the cyberhymnal:

Wonderful grace of Jesus,
Greater than all my sin;
How shall my tongue describe it,
Where shall its praise begin?
Taking away my burden,
Setting my spirit free;
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.

Refrain
Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus,
Deeper than the mighty rolling sea;
Wonderful grace, all sufficient for me, for even me.
Broader than the scope of my transgressions,
Greater far than all my sin and shame,
O magnify the precious Name of Jesus.
Praise His Name!

Wonderful grace of Jesus,
Reaching to all the lost,
By it I have been pardoned,
Saved to the uttermost,
Chains have been torn asunder,
Giving me liberty;
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.

Refrain

Wonderful grace of Jesus,
Reaching the most defiled,
By its transforming power,
Making him God’s dear child,
Purchasing peace and heaven,
For all eternity;
And the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.

Refrain

Here4Him, here is a link to the tune you (probably) sung to 'Thou art the everlasting Word'

http://www.stempublishing.com/hymns/data/music/_8/supremacy.mid

(If anyone knows where this tune is published in the UK currently, I'd appreciate the tip-off, thanks. 8-) )

This last year, I asked God to bring my mind up to speed with my spirit, because I feared I was not intellectually convinced of Jesus... I found it hard to point others to Him, because there seemed to be nothing solid in my mind to which to refer. :-? Well, He has given me more than I ever dreamed possible, in the form of revelations and visions, so I can never, now, feel I am taxing my imagination to describe His existence. Now, that sounds weird... but I know I do and did believe in Him ... It's just that it was all in spiritual terms, and I found it difficult to define Him to anyone outside. So, these changes (since He revealed Himself in new ways), have transformed my 'peace in believing' and given me great joy. :-D

You might be interested in this comp of extracts from Duncan Campbell's testimonies, of how he finally rearranged his life so as to get back His freedom of faith and living in Christ after years of struggle. This also is called 'Isn't Jesus wonderful?' (a quote from his daughter).

Thanks Dorcas. The words of that hymn are amazing, it couldn't have been any better if it was a sermon!

And thanks for recommending that Duncan Campbell sermon, it sounds ideal for me at the moment.
