A Practical Question

sermonindex May 15, 2007

I have recently wanted to get up at early times in the morning to pray, however I don't want to set my alarm clock because I don't want to wake the rest of my family up!

So I was looking for some creative way that I could definitely get up at a certain time in the morning?!

I know that some men of old would be up at about 4 in the morning sometimes in order to pray, and have been wondering how they got themselves up before alarm clocks were invented?!

Any help would be appreciated!

When I didn't have anything to wake me up.
I would go to bed before 10pm. and pray God would wake me up. and you know it worked. only when I went to bed before 10pm. There has been many times I have ask God to get me and He will.
But we have do our part to, by going to bed on time. Do you have a cell phone? you should set it and put it under pillow, that has help for me sometimes

Set your clock about 10min earlier for your desired study time, if you stay disciplined for about a month or two (you’ll have to roll with the punches when the kids awake) but after that set your clock 10 minutes later, and you'll be surprised how many times you'll awake right before you alarm goes off.
Probably not the quick fix you were looking for, but it often works for me
________
I have heard that some of the puritans deprived themselves of luxury items such as warm covers etc.. So they would awake often for their morning prayers.

Try an alarm clock with headphones. :-)

I don't know how well you would sleep with them though!

A vibrating wristwatch will do the trick, just do a search on the web.

Never thought of that, it does make me curious how they did it. Maybe they trained a rooster?

Maybe you can get a plug in timer and a high voltage cunstructionsite light, set the timer aim the light at your face and the light and heat should wake you up 8-)

Thanks for the ideas guys, mum and dad wouldn't be too happy being woken up with my alarm clock.

I will try the mobile thing tonight (maybe the only thing it's good for!), and post back with my 'review'!

God bless guys,
Rich.

Just tell yourself before you go to bed what time to wake up. Look at the clock and envision the time you want to wake up. Repeat this in your head. Go to sleep and you will wake up at that time, at least it works for me and nearly everyone who doesn't have an alarm clock.

Right on Charlene, works for me too. Builds faith too in knowing that God is waking you up to meet with Him.

This feels like a bit of a blog! Alas, I thought I'd let people know that the mobile phone under the pillow really does work! As far as I'm aware, nobody was woken up. Except me. Mission complete.

Thanks for the ideas guys, I might still invest in a vibrating wrist watch, because they sound good!

Thanks again,
Rich.
