Question???

R
ravenmolehil May 17, 2007

I recently heard a John MacArthur overview on Catholicism (which Todd Friel calls a hour and a half kidney punch) That referenced a meeting of well know evangelicals and high ranking catholic officials uniting on common grounds??? basically calling everyone Christians and wanting to work together etc…..
I think the sermon was about 2 years old
Does anyone have information on this meeting????

Here's a book by Chuck Colson about it the results of this meeting (which Colson thinks is just wonderful).

http://www.amazon.com/Evangelicals-Catholics-Together-Toward-Mission/dp/0849938600

Here is a good explanation of what this unscriptual gathering of compromisers was all about, including a list of people who were involved. Some of the names may suprise you.

Now... where can I get this MacArthur sermon you're speaking of?

This sermon needs to be available for everyone here. There are folks on this very forum who believe that the Catholic Church is just another denomination. I can see how someone could hold this view... if they are completely ignorant of what the Catholic Church is, and the hellish things it teaches.

This sermon needs to be heard.

I grew up Roman Catholic...went to ccd until I graduated from High School..Church every Sunday, Holy days, sacraments, the whole bit. When I got saved I used to rail against the Catholic (especially after reading a few Chick Tracts...those will fire you up!) Most of my family is still Catholic.

I'll be honest with you though, after being around Evangelical, Protestant, Pentecostal. etc. circles for many years now I have come to see that false doctrine is false doctrine no matter what tag you put on it. A lie is a lie.

Put Mary, the saints, indulgences, etc. aside, if we want to look at how a regular - devout catholic views how they are justified before God, it doesn't really differ from what many espouse on this very forum.

Agreed. You're absolutely right.

I dont agree with this, but we're getting into opinions here, and not facts.

This sermon by MacArthur is not an attack on Catholics... it is a frank discussion of the facts about what Catholic Church believes, teaches and it's devilish history. Catholics can believe whatever they want, but it is a sin to even partake of a false religion's doings.

Scripture says that to even bid "godspeed" to someone who comes to you with "another gospel" is to partake in the evil doings. How much more to participate in the mass, infant baptism, the eucharist... etc.

My heart hurts for those who are bound up in this satanic trap.

The Bible is available for any Catholic to pick up now... there is no excuse.

My point was that, a salvation according to works is a salvation according to works no matter what tag we put on it. Flesh is Flesh, it all stinks! 8-)

Most catholics don't even know what the catholic church really teaches anyway.

sermonindex May 18, 2007

lol... the converse is true too. Most "Christians" dont know what the Bible teaches! Once in awhile that becomes painfully clear even on this forum. :-)

Folks like that usually post a couple times, and then we never hear from them again. But every now and then someone like that sticks around, and it isnt long before we begin to see growth... it's a marvelous thing to watch.

Thats not to say us vets cant grow too... we do! This forum has been great for me on many different levels.

As being a false convert for several years myself (sinners prayer) I can attest to this; Thanks be to God for the small church pastor who wasn't afraid to preach a balanced gospel (THE WHOLE GOSPEL) which allowed Holy Spirit to work salvation,

I am going through the initial growth that Krispy speaks of; and I have had to forget what I thought i knew,,, & guess what? i now actually have a desire to read the bible & see what it says,,,rather than relying on past traditions, clichés, and quotes of men.

sermonindex May 18, 2007

There are many people, brother, who mistakenly believe the evidence of Holy Spirit baptism is speaking in tongues. If you want to know whether the Holy Spirit is alive in you... check and see how much you desire to be in the Word of God. I believe it's impossible to be a true born-again believer and have no desire for His Word.

Ravenmolehil... you've encouraged me this morning! :-)
