Monster In The Bedroom Is Scary

sermonindex May 25, 2007

I provide care for an elderly man who is near death. He has cancer of the eye and has lost one eye and the other is being eaten away. I have seen much deterioration since 1999. His life was the life of a homosexual, and he has Cerebral Palsy and his speech is slurred, more so as he is now bed ridden. He knows that he is going to die and I have asked him if he wants Jesus Christ to come into his life and he flat out said 'NO' and shook his head in defiance. Lately, he says that he is seeing a Monster coming into his bedroom and he is terrified. He calls for any of the staff and we come in to see nothing of course. And he cries because he is scared. I feel so sorry for him. I know what it's like to be afraid of seeing something in your room, I've experience it. But I have the power of Jesus name and His shed blood to protect me, he has not.

He has been an Athiest all his life and he has said that he doesn't believe in God. I am sharing this with you all because here is a man that is ready to die, and he is getting a taste of what it will be like not having God in his life.

The world has God in their life, they don't even realize it. They drink water, they eat, they breathe in air and enjoy nature around them, but there is a place that is void of all that. I don't want to get into a play on words, so I will explain myself when I say that the world has God in their life.

It's not that they have Jesus Christ living on the inside nor is it that they are born again without Christ, rather it's the essense of God's creation all around them that makes God being in their life regardless if they believe in Him or not, He is there.

This man that I look after is a fighter, he loves his room, loves this home, and knows that he is going to die. To die without Jesus Christ is more scary then any monster, my heart goes out to him.

I am sharing this because I wanted my heart to bleed a little. Thank you.

Brother, I also have seen this kind of situation, but back then, did not have the spiritual tools or the discretionary freedom to approach the issues with such people.

I pray you find a way to explain to him that his resistance to God is idolatry, and he has been worshipping this Monster in disguise for many years. Jesus Christ has already abolished death itself for those who will believe Him. Surely this is an attractive prospect?

Tell him about how just as he can see this Monster, so he will be able to see Jesus if he asks Him to reveal Himself just as clearly.

There is something that I have noticed that you said which might or might not be of any use.

You said he has lost one eye and the other is being eaten away by cancer, so in reality, he is near enough blind.

So, how come he can 'see' a monster?

Has he thought about what he is seeing or why he is seeing it?

Maybe you can't make him understand the gospel, but you can make him think about what is really taking place, what he is really seeing.

And, does he suppose he will stop seeing it after he is dead?

Just a few thoughts.

We can only pray.

God bless.

If he is seeing a demonic spirit he does not need his natural eyes. He may be so close to death that his spirit is becoming more of a influence than his natural body.

That spirit may be the binding force that is locking his heart so that the Gospel seems like nonsence.

The Bible sais that the God of this world has blinded the hearts of people so the Light of the Glorious Gospel wont shine in.

Let us take authority over this blinding spirit and ask the Father to extend to this dying man the gift of a repentant heart.

Grace, Grace to you.

Quote:If he is seeing a demonic spirit he does not need his natural eyes.

Exactly. That is what I was hinting at.

If he is still coherent enough to reject his possible last offer of salvation, then he should question where the 'monster' is coming from.

Just a thought, again.

God bless.

Earlier had sent this via PM ...

Hi Compliments,

Changed my mind and decided it better not to post this, thought I would send it to you personally ...

He knows that he is going to die and I have asked him if he wants Jesus Christ to come into his life and he flat out said 'NO' and shook his head in defiance.

I know this doesn't equate ... Last weekend coming out of the supermarket, waiting for the light in my peripheral I saw a man who literally looked like he had just came off a deserted island. All of one pant leg was missing, he had tied a plastic garbage liner around his waist, the only thing left of his shoes were the soles ... I turned around, stopped at the bank and went searching for him. Found him siting behind the stores and attempted to try and persuade him to take some money, get some food and clothing (A Good Samaritan store literally across the street) ... Actually, never got that far, his too was an emphatic "No!" Looking down at his blackened feet, and painfully long toe nails ... Praying and breaking inside, attempted a couple of times to piratically bargain with him for his own sake. "No" was the answer followed by bits of cursing again and again. Finally I just said 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry brother' and left him to the Lord. It left me broken, for him and for the ravages of sin in this life ... Not even sure why I wanted to share this with you. It was very ... perplexing, the sense of helplessness, his confusion. Found out later from my wife that he often sits out by the coffee shop and always refuses help of any kind.

I only know this much. Prayer ... Will be praying for this man and that the Lord may give you wisdom.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At Compliments urging, he asked that I would go ahead and post this.
The fear factor if I may put it that way may be exactly what is necessary here, only praying the Lords will regardless of that. What did come to mind is if it might be worth pointing out something of the discrepancy to this elderly man that he believes not in God and yet is being tormented and frightened by ...? Prayerfully consider putting him to the test. Why is he crying if there is nothing to fear of things that cannot be seen, such as God and just why is this 'monster' busy bothering him? The next time this 'monster' appears ask him to appeal to the God he says he doesn't believe in with all the honesty he can muster ... to prove it to himself once and for all whether he might be mistaken. What would he have to lose? What might he have to gain?
My first instincts were and continue now to be to pray that the Lord would increase the intensity of this as difficult as that might sound, to the point of a crisis and to an ultimate decision. There is a right use of fear that only the Lord knows the boundaries thereof. He used it to great effect upon my own life on more than a handful of occasions.
Brother Compliments
the Lord has sent you to care for this man. That fact alone gives hope for his soul!
I would suggest that you take a stand, in the Name of Jesus, against this "monster", but if he persists in rejecting God it would probably keep coming back. That is assuming it is a real spiritual entity.
Or, as was said, perhaps it's this thing (or what it represents) that is actually preventing him from believing?
It's so good you shared this, so we can pray for this man.
he has Cerebral Palsy and his speech is slurred
Before he was bedridden, I could make out what he was saying most of the time. Now that he is bedridden, it's very difficult, he went from bad to worse overnight in regards to his speech. The Cancer has eaten the right eye, it's completely gone and what is left is an open cavity that reveals the inner part of the jaw area. The other eye is affected, the cancer has eaten apart of the bridge of his nose and unto the left eye. His nose is almost completely gone therefore his upper part of his face has sagged unto his mouth, therefore his speech is limited. Since I know him and his needs, it's a little easier for me to discipher what is being said. However yesterday, I couldn't make out what he was trying to say to me when I asked him, "Why do you hate Jesus Christ?".
Do you hate God? No!
Do you hate Jesus Christ? Yes! Why?
Because he.......
I kept hearing "because He" and the rest I couldn't make out.
At 78 it's amazing that he has held on this long.
Brother, he is still frequently coming to mind to pray for, quite often and in unsuspecting ways throughout the day...
Do you hate God? No!
Do you hate Jesus Christ? Yes! Why?
Because he.......
"Loves you?"
It's just what came to mind brother ... Keep leaning on the Lord for wisdom. He is not far from the Kingdom...
Reply to Compliments
Dear brother I just wanted to say that I am confident there is not another person better equipped to handle this tragic situation than you.
I am around a group of elderly people weekly in a senior center and it is easy most times to tell who has that peace and comfort that passes all understanding. When they get sick or injured and the time comes for them to give up their independence is when the drastic differences becomes most apparent.
Compliments,
Can you give us an update on this situation? Would it be asking too much to do this daily? This situation is on my mind all day long....thinking how dreadful it would be if he would pass into eternity fighting God...
Blessings to you,
Today I asked him again, "Why do you hate Jesus Christ" his answer was, "I don't know". And afterwards he asked me to leave his room. I won't be able to keep tabs on him daily because I don't work every day, but I will do my best to provide what I can. He is become more and more cantankerous, but when I ask him pointed questions he calms down, but then he'll point his finger in my face to tell me to be quiet. There is a bit of love/hate relationship. He does like me, but hates me because I am happy all the time, and he can't stand that. Even way before the cancer he has always been this way, never happy, never smiled. The only time he'd laugh if I made a mistake or if someone hurt themselves. But regardless of all that, I prod him with questions. And I may just go in with the bible and sit with him and read. He may not understand a word I am saying physically, but perhaps God can work on his spirit.
