What effect has the changes in the Bible Versions affected Church Life

Before going to a christian church in canterbury where they always used the NIV except for one preacher who used the KJV.
I noticed the breakup between the relationship between Jesus and God looking back on it.
I am just interested in the effects the versions have effecting everyday life and church life?

Like my piano teacher says, if people would just obey the light they have from the Bible, no matter the translation, the world would be better off.

I know wonderful, godly people on both sides of this argument. However, I also know people that use the KJV that are legalistic. It just depends on what you do with the light you have.
