unable to play audio or video sermons

sermonindex Jun 14, 2007

Hi

Every time I try to play a video or audio sermon I get an error message. I tried doing what they say but couldn't get it to work!

My connection is broadband not dial up

this was the error message:

Windows media player, 9 series
0xC00D11B3: Encountered a network problem
Windows Media Player encountered a network problem. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:
•\tThe server is down or busy. Try connecting to the server again later.
•\tYou are not connected to the local area network (LAN) or to the Internet. Connect to the network or Internet, and then try again.
•\tThe proxy server settings for the Player are not configured properly. Verify that your proxy settings are correct, and then try again.
To verify your proxy server settings
•\tOn the Tools menu, click Options, click the Network tab, and then verify your settings in the Streaming proxy settings area.
Note
•\tIf you do not know what your proxy server settings should be, on the Network tab, select a protocol, click Configure, and then select Autodetect proxy settings or Use proxy settings of the Web browser (available for HTTP protocol only).
•\tIf you are connected to the Internet through a dial-up connection, you may not be able to choose the proxy server. For more information, consult your Internet service provider or network administrator.
Error ID = 0xC00D11B3, Condition ID = 0x00000000
I tried the help menu and gotthe following. The parts bolded are what I tried so far, it says none under MMS and RTSP, and I don't know if HTTP is "80" or not:

Setting network options
Use the Network tab to configure the protocols and proxy settings that you want Windows Media Player to use when receiving streaming media files.
To access the Network tab
•\tOn the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Network tab.
The following options are listed on the Network tab:
Streaming protocols
Specifies the protocols Windows Media Player can use to receive a stream. The Player receives streams through UDP, TCP, and HTTP. It can also receive multicast streaming. By default, all protocols are selected, which means that the Player attempts to use each protocol to receive a stream. Because the Player can receive files by using a variety of protocols, it is recommended that you select all protocols. However, if your network implements a firewall that prevents you from receiving streams that use the UDP or TCP protocols, you may want to clear the UDP or TCP check boxes.
Use ports
Specifies a particular port if UDP is the protocol used to receive streaming content. This option is useful if your network or firewall administrator has established a specific port that allows streaming content to pass. Unless otherwise instructed, Windows Media streams attempt to pass through firewalls using the ports in the following table.
Protocol\tDefault port
HTTP\t80
MMS\t1755
RTSP\t554

Streaming proxy settings
Specifies how each protocol operates with a proxy server. Proxy servers are used when networks are protected by firewalls. If your network is behind a firewall, and you do not know how to configure your settings, please consult your network administrator.
The proxy server must use the default port for the selected protocol, as shown in the following table.
Protocol\tDefault port
HTTP\t80
MMS\t1755
RTSP\t554

Configure
Click to change the proxy settings of the selected protocol. There are several ways you can configure a protocol to work with a proxy server.
This option\tSpecifies
Autodetect proxy settings \tThe Player determines the ports that are open and uses them to receive streaming content.
Use proxy settings of the Web browser\tThe Player uses the same configuration as your browser to access network communication.
Do not use a proxy server\tThe Player does not attempt to communicate with a proxy server. Typically, this means that the Player does not receive streaming content from the Internet.
Use the following proxy server\tThe Player uses the proxy server and the port specified. Select Bypass proxy server for local addresses if you do not want the Player to use the proxy server when streams are from local servers.

Hope someone can help, it's very frustrating.

Thanks, but I'm not quite sure what a web browser is! Heard of it but never understood exactly what it means!

Maybe you can explain?

Thanks

Hi Jeannette,

Web browser is the program that you are using to browse the internet. The most popular browsers are Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera etc.

I highly recommend to use Firefox (instead of Internet Explorer), there are quite a lot extensions to it and very useful tools.

You can download it for free here:

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

If you have any questions and problems, please let us know to try if we are able to help.

For video files that are of the mp4 extention especially you will need to ensure to right click on the sermon titles and choose "save target as" and it will be playable with the software you can download freely: www.itunes.com

Thanks Kire, will try it. I thought Internet Explorer was the only one that existed - never heard of the others!

Can you access everything through it, or only certain things?

I think I only have MP3, didn't know there was any later one.

I'd forgotten your advice of right clicking and "save as", sure you said that before, though I think it only worked with audio, not video.

Thanks, will try that again too.

Yes, I can get the audios, no problems! Couldn't find any videos to try yet.

The only thing now is time to listen! ;-)
