is the rainbow from god?

i have gotten many questions from the bible that have challenged my faith and i am always able after research to find a way to show that the bible has all the answers, but there is one thing i forgot. I was whatching tv and how god said he made the rainbow to show he would never flood earth again. theres a problem with this one because scientist say a rainbow comes from light and stuff...i have seen partial rainbows after washing a car next to where the tire is and there might be some oil...but in any case i have still seen a partial rainbow. If god created the rainbow as a sign, well what about before he flooded the earth? there was light that could still refract. does anyone have any thing they could share with me because im really getting bothered over a rainbow.

luckyd, I have found that the Bible does not have all the answers, it just has THE answer, that is Jesus Christ.

To turn your question around, you could in the same way say, "How did Jesus turn water into wine?"-- "Isn't that physically and scientifically impossible?"

So to answer your question regarding rainbows, do you not think it enough for God, who created the Heavens and the Earth in 6 days, who is the Holy of Holies, the Alpha and the Omega, to have created a rainbow to be a sign of His covenant with His creation, that he will never destroy it by water again, and to be as a memorial, almost reminder, of what happened? Do you not think he could change the fabric of the world for this addition of a rainbow?

Most things in the Bible cannot be reasoned out with science and so forth... it takes faith, this is what God intended and wants. Faith in God as he in fact is, not as we suppose him to be.

Keep in mind too that before the flood there had never been rain so even if the light could have refracted it didn't just because there was never an occasion for it to refract.

Most things in the Bible cannot be reasoned out with science and so forth... it takes faith, this is what God intended and wants. Faith in God as he in fact is, not as we suppose him to be.

This is a good thing to keep in mind. Just taking the Bible for what it says and not worrying about the things of science that don't seem to fit with scripture I think is the best approach to take. If God said it then that's the way it is even if science doesn't seem to line up.

Mmmm, never thought of the rainbow challenging one's faith, but see what you mean.

I agree with Jordan about faith: Just because you haven't YET found the answer from human science, is that a reason to doubt?

I'm not talking about "blind" faith, but reasonable faith that trusts the Lord as a Father, and the Bible as containing a reliable record of His acts. That is so, even when we don't always understand, or don't always agree, what some parts of the Bible really mean.

The Bible says that there wasn't any rain before the Flood, so there may not have been have been any rainbows in the sky. That doesn't mean there were no rainbow EFFECTS anywhere, such as your example of oil in water. In fact nature is full of them. The dazzling colours of many birds and butterflies, or even insects, for example, are produced through refraction of ordinary light (splitting of light, as in a rainbow or prism) leaving only one colour. I'm sure that was just as true before the Flood as after.

The difference with the rainbow after the flood was surely its huge size (compared to birds' wings and the fact that it was in the sky.

Or perhaps there had always been rainbows (even without rain there may have been clouds), but the Lord told Noah "This is (~~[u]~~from now on[/u]) a sign to you." Rainbows now had a special significance that they didn't have before.

It's the same sort of thing that happens when lovers carve their names on a tree, or first meet when a particular song is playing. The tree and the song already existed but now they become "OUR tree", or "OUR tune".

Personally I think it more likely that there wereen't any rainbows in the sky before the Flood, but even if there were they still became a sign to mankind of God's prommise.

As a Biologist I believe that if science doesn't seem to tie in with the Bible it's probably the science that's wrong! Unless of course I've misunderstood what the Bible is actually saying.
