Valley of Vision

i received today a copy of this book, a collection of prayers and devotions from the Puritans , i just wanted to lift it up and say even thou i havent rea the whole thing, i read some here and thre and it seems like a very lovely book, I think this is a perfect way to start a moment in prayer , read one or several of thease to get one going.

I do not want to turn this into a Calvinist/Arminian debate but you know that the excerpts in Valley of Vision are from Calvinists?

The reason for this is important as the prayers and devotions in there are worded the way they are because of who their Theology presented man as and who God was.

This is what is frustrating in dealing with this issue, men will herald those who proclaim such a depth of sin, and wonder of grace. But belittle, and mock the beliefs behind it.

:-) brother, acctually most books i read are from Calvanists, or thoose who tend to "lean" at that direction. Spurgeon is one of my favorites, but i dont share all his belifs and view of scripture. But i have no problem with it, i can enjoy Spurgeon, even Calvin himself, and the next day be refreshed by a sermon from Wesley, we always need to discern what we read, and i can probably find something i dont agree on with every single preacher on SI on some issue.

I dont know if you meen me? but if i belittled or mocked anyone it was not my intension and i would like to apologize.

What I am trying to get across, is that too many "demonize" Reformed, Calvinist teaching without realizing that the majority of men and women that we admire were indeed Calvinists. So when someone quotes Spurgeon for instance, one assumes that this person is a Calvinist(not that this matters, I am making a point). When people speak of how glorious John Newton's "Amazing grace" is, one tends to think that they understand that he wrote this from a Calvinist view of grace.

In our day, too many differing theologies have been blurred, and it creates a lot of instability so far as a Christian's walk goes.
