In the beginning Adam?

Adam was male.

If you're thinking of the account of the sixth day in chapter 1 were it says male and female created He them (notice "them" is plural). That's a quick account noting that Adam [i]and[/i] Eve were both created on day six.

Chapter 2 of Genesis is also day six of creation only in detail.

Is it possible that Adam was both male and female at first?

I've actually heard that interpretation before and I guess anything's possible. But if it did happen that way the grammar in the Genesis account actually doesn't support it.

Eve was created out of Adam when a suitable helpmeet was not found for him from among the animals. If Eve had always been apart of Adam then this would have been irrelevant.

Brother, I honestly think I do see it in a spiritual sense. If this is what you really think it means I'm not going to try to change your mind or even break fellowship with you over it. You are far to valuable to me as a brother in Christ to do that.

But I would encourage you to be careful in "spiritualizing" texts in the Bible. You can force the scriptures to mean almost anything doing that.

I've found that sticking with what the text actually says, following the rules of grammar and scriptural interpretation (hermeneutics), are very spiritual.
