What spoke to me is we so often discuss doctrines and so on, an example is CAL VS ARMand this can be good and profitable done in the right spirit and manner, but meanwhile, souls are perishing by the second into an eternal hell or heaven. I advice everyone who wants to go on to deeper waters with the Lord to take one hour, unplugg the phone, just sit or lay down, and listen to this sister prayerfully. May he that has ears hear.... That is so true, Brother. Thank you for the reminder. Have read most of Corrie's books in the past, some of them more than once.
It is true of anything and anyone in our lives that we cling to more than Him - even revival and a desire after holiness can become an end in itself!
During the East African revival of 1935 some African brethren came over to the UK, and held meetings together with a few of the missioneries.
One African brother, who was a leader in the revival, said: [i][b]"Why do people in the UK talk so much about revival? In Africa it was [u]Jesus[/u] we talked about, not revival!"[/b][/i]
Everything has to be focussed on Him: doctrine, family and friends, pet likes and dislikes, hobbies etc etc... Everything we do and are...
I find that very very challenging personally - so many other things intrude and threaten to take priority - including this computer!
It even includes all our "religious credentials", our achievements for the Lord, our theological training and/or knowledge of Scripture, (if we have any), our gifts and fancied "maturity" in Christ etc.
Which is the context of what Paul said in Philippians 3:
[i][color=CC0000]But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. [u]For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as refuse, in order that I may gain Christ[/u] 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, based on law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith; 10 [u]that I may know him[/u] and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that if possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. The Lord once said to me, "You will never be truly happy until you have lost all you think you now have!"
Many years later I'm beginning to understand a little of what He meant - and there's more of that kind of "loss" to come!
