Eph 4:11-16
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head-Christ- 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
Acts 8:30-31
30 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?" 31 And he said, "How can I, unless someone guides me?" And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him.
Acts 18:24-26
24 Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. 25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.
It is not up to the church to teach us everythng of doctrine. we need our own devotion and study. But God has gifted men to teach and to feed us.
Mark 12:30-31
30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. 31 And the second, like it, is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these."
One of many reasons on why we love other people is because we have biblical teachimg that exhorts, admonishes, and convicts with truth and power. His church is built on serving, and we can't be busy bodies. They create such an animal that they need tons of people to serve, there is no time to teach and preach the word. Everyone is "working". This is one of the big problems of mega churches and seeker friendly churches. They are about entertaining. My church is boarderline on a seeker-friendly.
2 Tim. 4:2-5
2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
If we would preach the Gods Word with all His power and annoiting what would happen? John Macarthur proposed a question:[i]WHat if the church got rid of music completey, who would attend?[/i] Don't ge me wrong I love music for worship. His point was that there is not sound biblical teaching coming from many pulpits, instead they are filling it with music and other types of entertainment. We have watered down the word of God, thinking somehow it needs our help. It will surpass us and be constint for everlasting.
