The Breath of Life
Job 33:4
“And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness.… So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.… So God breathed into man’s nostrils the breath of life and he became a living soul” [Genesis 1:27, 28; 2:7]. Life came into the clay structure. He began to breathe, to walk, to think, to feel in the body the nephesh: the word in Hebrew means, in the first place, the breath of life, then, finally, by that immortal essence called the soul.…
God did not breathe the breath of life into you, my friend, that you might be a sensuous or splendid animal. That soul was given you for a purpose worthy of yourself, still more of the Creator.
What is the purpose of life?… “Man’s chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy him forever.” That is the double aim of life: duty first, then happiness as the consequence; to bring in revenues of honor to God, to build up His Kingdom, spread His truth; to bring this whole world of His and lay it subject at the feet of the Son of God. Job 33v4, 'The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

If we were to meditate on the one verse alone it would blow our minds if we really understood it.

Our breath is from God and belongs to God, and we should walk softly before God, He could claim that breath back at any time.

Quote: 'To bring this whole world of His and lay it subject at the feet of the Son of God.'

Our chief end is God's glory. If we are not doing that, what good are we, to God or man.
