Randy and Paula White announce divorce

S
swsojourner Aug 25, 2007

TAMPA - As a team, pastors Randy and Paula White attracted tens of thousands to Without Walls International Church. But behind the picture perfect image, the couple's 18-year marriage was in trouble.

At Thursday night's service, they announced plans to divorce. Both have been divorced before.

"I believe the leadership establishes some principles when it comes to fidelity and marriage, and when it comes to the fiber of a family," says Pastor Donald Lott of True Worship Christian Center in Temple Terrace.

Lott is familiar with the church, and both pastors. He has family who attend Without Walls.

"By all means, a pastor should at all times be able to recognize when he is in crisis and his hope is in the word of God, and should all be able to rise above our circumstances in situations such as this," Lott said

Randy and Paula White built their multi-million dollar evangelical empire by offering what they called "the perfect church, for those who aren't." That message catapulted Paula White to international stardom as a televangelist and author. Her husband has been less high profile, mostly leading the church at home.

The couple shares a $2 million dollar home on Bayshore Boulevard, along with a private jet. Some say the pastors have been spending more time apart as they buy property and pursue ministries elsewhere. Paula White owns a Trump Towers condo in New York City and a home in San Antonio. Randy White is reportedly leasing property in Malibu.

"The scripture says the love of money is the root of all evil, and you have to evaluate your priorities," Pastor Lott says. "And without us knowing what their priorities are, I would hope they'd be on the Kingdom."

But with their lavish lifestyle on display, critics say what the Whites were preaching was a message of prosperity at the expense of humility and family values.

Now with its leadership split, the church faces its own test of survival.

Great, another couple that drags the name of Jesus in the dirt. However having watched her on TV the feeling of a shallow ministry has always been evident. Sad but true!!!

Paula White would never allow her husband to
have authority over her or to take his place
as head of the household. Sad to say, they
don't regard the covenant of marriage as
a sacred bond!!

This tabloid story reminds me of Ham who disclosed the sin of his Dad, Noah to his brothers. We know what God thought about that! Let us be careful not to repeat the same sin.

I have no clue who these people are, but I am convinced that God is not finished with them. God’s story is still in the making, so let’s not tar and feather them yet or go tut-tut-tut....

Just recently I heard about a divorced pastor couple. He has proved unfaithful to the Lord, but she has gone on to serve him humbly. What a testimony she is to the countless who suffer in tough relational situations – be it as a spouse, a child of abusive parents etc. I met her at a wedding and she just radiates Christ.

Let us not underestimate God. He especially uses the fallen to glorify his name and proclaim his mercy. Can we partner with him in that mission?

well, it's not a tabloid story..they announced their divorce before their congregation. So no Noah analogy can be drawn. Pretty big news.

Without Walls is a mega-church and Paula White is on TBN and other programs. The Whites lived their lifestyle AS AN EXAMPLE to fellow Christians who weren't walking in prosperity

The day before, Prophetess Juanita Bynum's husband was arrested for choking her in the parking lot of a hotel. I guess that would be tabloid. :)

I am not surprised friends. As I heard about Juanita Bynum and her husband the other night. The White's fell in my thoughts that they were next to hit the wall, and I knew nothing about their troubles.

Nope, I am not a self proclaimed prophet or otherwise, it just fell in my spirit...

Pray Saints, judgement is being revealed and it will not let up until we drop down(humble-sackcloth type prayers) continually before the MAker.

Blessings in Yeshua's name

Dear saints, Greetings in Jesus' Name by Whose Blood we are Saved.AMEN.

brethren i heard about Randy and Paula splitting on these boards and i was saddened. Dear saints, i hope we are lifting these couples up in prayer that God restore them to Himself and restore us all to one another as to Him. yes indeed there was much flaunting of a lifestyle inconsistent with scripture in many ways, yes there was a wrong arrangement in terms of who led the ministry, and yes this prosperity nonsense is being revealed for the lie it is and those who preached it are being rejected one by one very publically. That being said dear saints, i hope we pray for these our brethren who are in need of much Grace now. if i ever dare think i am beyond any of what they are going through, God lets me know in a minute and He then reminds me of the Mercy He has shown me for my own adulteries and fornications and other iniquities. Then i bless Him for His Mercy and of late brethren, i can't help but show others the same Mercy shown me...let us never forget the Mercy shown us on Calvary! oh that our God would indeed receive the rewards of His Labours...that the Mercy shown to us which we realize would be shed abroad to as many people as there are!

i didn't even know about Juanita Bynum and her husband's fiasco either. May God extend to us Grace to Hold up our brethren in prayer that they may be restored lest Satan steal them away forever or take advantage of us by dividing us and making those of us who should be extending forgiveness think more of ourselves than we ought because we're not guilty...

God brought to me 1 Corinthains 5 and 2 Corinthians 2 which speaks to matters such as this. let us prayerfully consider what God is saying through our brother Paul who himself was the recepient of this Mercy and Grace and saw what he was apart from it...the chief of sinners...

let us pray for our brethren and for one another and show Mercy. i am not saying that whatever consequences for this should be spared them, but that in it all, we show Mercy.

Grace and Peace are ours in Jesus.AMEN.

Interesting that Paula White and Juanita Bynum are both refered to in this thread ... Perhaps if we were more in tune to the (God breathed) Pauline ordinances to the Church we could bypass much of our current crapola ... Perhaps this is all part of God's correction beginning in His own house ...

To be perfectly honest i'm really turned off (both naturally and spiritually) by what i concider to be loud mouthed, boisterous, preaching women ... i've always concidered, and refered to, Paula White as "scary", because altho she seemed to come from a sincere place, the intensity and manic-ness of her style and delivery is just way to over the top for me, and i'm not one to prone to listen to any so called preacher (male or female) who constanly uses that verse i still can't find in my Bible yet ... namely, "Pick up that phone"!!!

Now of Juanita Bynum, i don't even give her the same benefit of the doubt as i do with Paula White ... Somehow it struck me highly improbable that a real woman of God (especially a prophetess) would spend a reported million dollars on a wedding, and sport an 8 carat wedding ring ... To me Bynum is overly pretentious and hits my spirit as a Jezebel (Rev. 20:2), in the sense that she is both a usurper of authority over men, and a despiser of such authority, manipulative and decietful, and more than likely (yes i'm supposing here) it was her mouth that got her the beat down in the parking lot ...

Actually both she (a so called prophetess) and here husband (an alledged Bishop) should have never, if following the counsel of the Word, ever to have come to such an un-Christian public display, but as a saint yes, but also as an African-American man, in their doing so i can just picture her running her wickedly cutting and smart mouth off at him in ways that only an African-American woman can, and the next thing you know Bishop reverted back to bruh-man and was all up-side her head ... Now if i'm wrong here i ask our Lord's forgiveness, but if the man got up from the meeting in the restaraunt apparently he wasn't liking what he was hearing, so why would a woman of God follow him into the parking lot? ...

In Paula White's case my prayers do go out to her and her husband that whatever lessons God wants them to learn they learn ... Now in Bynum's case i actually had to repent to our Lord of my first response to hearing the news that she'd been beat down, and it was, "Good enuf for her"! ... Now i admit it was'nt a Christlike response, but one moreso out of my flesh, much for the reasons i already stated above, and so now after repentance my prayers (as for the Whites) apply equally to her and her husband ... i can only pray that neither of them, especially Bynum, attempt to play the "sympathy" card here, because especially in Bynum's case, i'll just see it as further manipulation towards their means ...

At 57 and twice divorced, at this point in my salvation walk i'm more than happy with being, and remaining, totally married to our Lord, and whatever work He has for me to do ... :-D

At Thursday night's service, they announced plans to divorce. Both have been divorced before.

...and yet, there are those on this very forum who will argue with me till they are blue in the face, making excuses for why we should ignore the letter Paul wrote to Timothy and Titus concerning the qualifications for being a pastor/elder.

So we all ignore scripture, and then weep, wail and nash our teeth when we see this news about the Whites & Bynum. None of these people are qualified to be pastor/elders! The Whites have both been divorced, and Bynum is a woman. I dont know what Bynums history is, so I wont speculate on her marital history... but she is not the husband of one wife.

And none of these people preach the scriptures, they are all WOF. It is heresy, and they are false teachers. This is the natural course of WOF doctrine. They said God wants His kids to be wealthy, Jesus said it is easier for a camel to pass thru the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

Why the shock, folks? None of this news surprises me in the least. You have unqualified people posing as pastors in the pulpit, teaching rank heresy.

They dont represent me anymore than they represent God. Get over it. They are celebrities getting divorced. Nothing new.

Give me a real man of God, who not only preaches the Word but lives it, and I'll call him pastor. Not these fakers and theives.

I notice on her website there is no slowing down for Paula... she's plowing ahead with her "Satisfied Woman" Ladies Seminars... complete with a poolside pajama party w/ kareoke!

So she is going to teach women about being satisfied... while her second marriage is splitting up.

LOL... if it wasnt so pathetic it would be funny.

Sadly, in an age where pastors are becoming more and more "professionals," the mentality of being a father of the faith has declined. Thus, glaring character flaws are simply overlooked or not even considered at all. So long as the pastor can preach, manage, and grow a church, this is all that seems to matter.

God, give the church fathers!

KJ... I just read the article you linked. He officiated the wedding between Pam Anderson and Kid Rock?? His personal trainer is a former porn-star who got saved?? She has a condo in NY, he has a house on the beach in CA??

Gee... wonder why they're getting divorced? I'm scratching my head here.

Randy White Makes Emotional Return To Without Walls Pulpit
By JEFF SCULLIN The Tampa Tribune

Published: Aug 27, 2007

TAMPA - Days after its founders announced they plan to divorce, Without Walls International Church got back to business Sunday.

The 9 a.m. service drew about 1,000 people - a typical crowd for the early service during summer months. After a typically high-energy service, few members wanted to talk about the impending split between Randy and Paula White, though.

One woman who did speak after the service, Katrina Singleton, 35, of Brandon, said the couple's separation might affect the church. Some members tend to follow Randy, while others follow Paula, she said.

"I was really surprised," Singleton said.

After a rare joint appearance Thursday night, when the co-founders delivered the news to a stunned congregation, Randy White returned to the pulpit alone, as expected. White told the Tribune last week that his wife had returned to New York Friday morning, after they made their announcement.

That wasn't unusual. In the past year, as her own ministry has evolved, Paula White's appearances at the North Grady Avenue church have become sporadic.

No mention was made of Thursday's announcement at the 9 a.m. service, where White preached for a few minutes before turning over the pulpit to Ralph Messer, a Messianic rabbi from Denver who teaches about the Hebrew roots of the Christian faith.

Messer preached about the Torah and Jewish entrepreneurship and spoke again at the 11 a.m. service, where he led the congregation in a prayer that ended emotionally for White.

"I declare today that my bishop has entered into a new season, a new season, a new season," Messer intoned, prompting White's followers. "Now, give him glory. Praise God."

As emotions in the sanctuary reached a high point, Messer hugged White, telling him, "I love you. I love you so much." White, a prayer shawl draped over his shoulders, stood clutching a Torah scroll, head bowed, with a pained expression on his face.

Then White made his way to the podium, as his congregation cheered, buried his face in a black cloth and appeared to sob. Shortly after receiving a supportive hug from Messer, White appeared to crumble completely. His shoulders sagged, and he laid his head on his arm at the podium and gave way to even deeper sobbing. Eventually, Messer and a host of black-suited ministers gathered, laid their hands on White and formed a tight prayer circle around him.

On the video monitor behind White, the words "international church" appeared to hover over White's prostrate body, as though he were carrying them on his back.

Intended or not, the symbolism may prove prophetic.

In his interview with the Tribune last week, White said he plans to resume his role as the church's senior pastor and that he has put on hold plans to start another church in Malibu, Calif.

The Whites founded Without Walls in 1991 as the South Tampa Christian Center. Since then, the church has become one of the nation's biggest and fastest-growing churches, boasting 23,000 members and nearly $40 million in revenues last year.

The Whites, who've been married nearly 18 years, said last week that the split is amicable and comes after visits to counselors over several years.

They blame two lives going in different directions.

Now, they will have to find a way to separate their interests without damaging the church they built.

Those logging on to Without Walls' Web site Sunday to watch services saw no signs of a separation. The site continues to display a picture of the Whites together and to promote Paula White Ministries, which contributes between $50,000 and $80,000 a week to the church, Randy White said last week.

White said his wife would come back as a guest speaker and continue supporting the church for a while.

She will have bases in New York, and San Antonio, Texas, where she has homes, and in California. White said he would remain in the couple's Bayshore Boulevard home.

The couple, who are using the same law firm for their divorce, plan to file as soon as they can work out the details of dividing their assets, Randy White said. That could happen as early as this week, he said.

This convinced me that God's hand was upon their life. I'm a little confused now. :-P I'm not trying to make light of it but I'm so tired of Christians defending the WOF.

But anyway, the story of Juanita Bynum and Paula White (never heard of her) has just really prompted me to pray for my own pastors because the world is just waiting for the next one to fall so they can say, "See. I told you. The church is full of hypocrites!"

I did a search on the web about this situation and found the following website that has more details about other 'ministries'. Check it out - might be a good thing to have a bucket handy to catch your puke!
http://www.inplainsite.org/html/tele-evangelist_lifestyles.html#JMCompound

And you know what? If people would not give these guys any money, they could not accumulate such stinking wealth - all acquired by preying on the sympathies of the gullible 'Christian'. Somehow I suspect these donors will have to give account someday to Someone for their enabling of the false prophet

Greetings in Jesus' Name by Whose Blood we are Saved.AMEN.

like bro Rahman and bro Krispy said, if we stuck to the book, we'd not have to deal so much with issues like these. i must say a part of me was shocked when i heard all this, perhaps the greater part of me was saddened though. somehow i saw such things coming. Judgment begins at our house and it has been going on for some time. Men and women of God chasing after all sorts of other things being given over to reprobate minds...we too must take heed lest we ourselves are given over...What is happening is the exposure of this fallicy of this prosperity nonsense. the proponents of it are running into all sorts of ussues one by one and it seems to me God is vomitting.

i read the article which spoke of the divorce. some things which struck me were the church is $22 mil in the hole? YIKES! The shadiness of RAW real estate...something is more than amiss...

bro Krispy is dead on when he said that unqualified people will fail ultimately...

in the truth of all that, i hope we remember to lift these up in prayer that God open eyes, soften hearts (including our own lest we fall prey also) that He may restore His children to Himself, correcting us and setting us straight.

Grace and Peace are ours in Jesus.AMEN.

In response to your post:

God, give the church fathers!

I read several years ago, when young black men were asked why they are leaving the Church in droves for Islam, time and again their response was they found mentoring fathers in Islam they couldn't find in the Church.

What a commentary for the men of the Church.

--- i heard a preacher say this Sunday that God does three things with His people before He drops His hammer (correction) ...

- He Warns ...

- He Waits ...

- He Weeps ...

But there's a fourth step, one the preacher forgot to mention, the one that WE DO in response
to His finally dropping His hammer (correction) ...

- We Wail ...

Joel.1

[7] He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
[8] Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
[9] The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD's ministers, mourn.
[10] The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.
[11] Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
[12] The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.
[13] Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.
[14] Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,
[15] Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

Joel.2
[12] Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:
[13] And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
[14] Who knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God?
[15] Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:
[16] Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.
[17] Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?

Some might think this OT quotation a bit over the top in reference to the NT Church ... But i believe with all my heart that we of the Church here in America will know pretty soon whether it is or not ...

Talkn2u Aug 28, 2007

This is the first I am hearing about Randy and Paula White's divorce...and also the first I have heard of the news regarding Juanita Bynum and her husband.
I am near to tears here.
Altho this is "news" to me, I am not surprised.

Years ago...many years ago; Paula's ministry was encouraging to me, and so was Juanita's....

However,
Over the past several years I have noticed so much was not right...my spirit was terribly grieved with what I heard and saw come from them.
There was a terrible change, and I did not sense the Holy Spirit at all in what was being said. I could not stand to hear them or see them and I stopped watching "Christian Television" all together...I do not EVER put it on...It has become so grossly offensive, and embarrassing to the Name of Christ...I could just cry.

I know that common opinion may be, "why are you saddened by this, it is typical of false ministries"...
I know that ... but I am broken hearted.

I want to shake them all and say, "Stop it...step away, walk away, forget your so called ministries...they are just "empires" in your names, let them go and get your lives in order...drop everything else and especially your knees, and start back at the beginning, the foot of the Cross..."

Oh I am so frustrated...look what pride and worldly success does....

If I am coming acrossed judgemental and self righteous, than I am using the wrong computer keys to formulate words...I am just sick at heart that the dear Name of Jesus is dragged thru the mud again...AGAIN ...

When humility is no longer visible in the life of an ambassador of Christ, then Christ is no longer being presented.

Bonnie
