I went to hear Paul Washer speak tonight

He spoke on Romans 12:1-2.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Many things were of a practical nature regarding how to cultivate passion for God. It was all very good. A few things that really stuck out and I wanted to share:

Sometimes we are so mesmerized by the world that we miss Him. But sometimes we are mesmerized by our own sanctification.

The greatest need of rebuking is not in the world but in the church. We need to be willing to accept a rebuke from any source. Not all are right, but all should be listened to.

The reason the lives of most Christians are so empty (and why Christian book stores are filled with books on how to fix our miserable lives) is because we don’t lay our lives down. What further motivation to lay our lives down do we need than this – He shed His blood for my soul.

Real freedom is being the slave to a perfect master. All I have to worry about is doing what He tells me.

He will be speaking again tomorrow and I will post more then. Right now all I can hear is "lay your life down....lay your life down"

They plan on putting all 3 of this weekend's messages up as well as the messages from the last time he was there. Not sure how long it will take for them to do that but I did check and there are none currently there.

This morning Brother Paul was preaching from the same passage as last night:

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2

His focus this morning was on presenting our bodies, that it was a presenting of ourselves once, with no need for a continual rededication. He also spoke about giving ourselves to the things of God (the Word and prayer, etc) and also about the need to eliminate things.

Presenting our minds - He spoke a good bit about TV and how the unrealistic-ness of what we see there takes our eyes away from enjoyment of what God has given us. He also spoke about Harry Potter and called it a rebuke to the church. Children love it because it is full of mystery, adventure, something to live out and they are not finding this at church.

He also gave an interesting illustration of the freedom there is in obeying God. If you had never learned the rules of music and someone asked you to play the piano, you would sit there paralyzed, not knowing what to do. But by knowing and following the rules of music you would have freedom to play and create beautiful music. Likewise, His wisdom directing our lives brings freedom.

i have recently heard and watched paul washer and i was brought to tears as God revealed his heart cry to the church. My fruit from hearing paul washers message was to spend more time before Jesus as much as i can and become a man of prayer. Athough i can not judge the fruits of this mans life because i don't have much info on his walk. His sermons rang true to my spirit and God moved me as he talked. My walk with God has really changed after hearing this man.

a majority of churches that i have witnessed today Have less to do with God then the world. The world knows what a real christian is when they see it were as the churches are becoming blind to real christianity. the famine of the true word of God is heart breaking.

but at least we have this site to feed on ;-)

I can sum up the majority of tonight’s service in 2 words – seek Christ.

The church that Brother Paul was preaching at was a reformed Baptist church and he passionately exhorted everyone to not stop at correct theology about Christ, but to seek the Christ Himself. Theology is not the end. The end is an intimate relationship with Christ.

He spoke at length about how morality and religion are not indicators that one has a relationship with Christ. A lot of these things Brother Paul shares about it most of his messages.

He spoke about holiness – separation from the world and gave a beautiful illustration. He talked about the day he married his wife, his relationship to her changed. His relationship with every other woman in the world also changed on that day. And so because I say “I do” to Jesus, I say “I don’t” to the world.

I thank God for the opportunity I had to hear this man of God speak. I hope the messages are available on SI soon for everyone to hear.

I wanted to add one other thing that is more of a personal observation. Brother Paul seemed to be such a genuinely humble man. As the pastor prayed before turning the service over to him, you could hear Brother Paul crying out quietly to God in the back of the room. Tonight when he got on the platform and opened in prayer, he was broken and weeping as he repeated the name of Jesus, thanking Him for what He had done for him.

In a day when so many preachers come across as arrogant and self-important, Paul Washer is a breath of fresh air. May God continue to raise up many, many more such preachers of righteousness

you are right this man is a very humble man, when I met a few months I really saw this.
Do remember him your prayers. His wife just had a new baby girl like 3months ago. And he has lots physical pains.

There is something beautiful about seeing a broken man..
